Default What Kind of Practice Pad is This?

What is Jo Jo Mayer using in his Secret Weapons DVD? Do any of you have experience with it? Thanks. Joey

OK, maybe I can make the clearer. Jo Jo uses a device that has a real metal rim and is elevated about an inch above his snare ... looks like little legs which sit on the head of the snare below. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it has a metal skin, maybe just a tight black head. Here is a link to a good shot of it.

Anyway, I've never seen one of these before and searched around the net looking for this type of practice pad. Do any of you know what the heck this is? Great info on the DVD by the way. Joey

Hey Joey, Its made by Remo, I think.
Dont know if its just specially for him or mainline merchandise. I think on one of the MD dvds, someone from the audience asked him what it was, and he described it as this really loud practice pad.. which he also uses as a drum on his Nerve set-up

It's a Sabian product called a Quiet Tone with a black head. One of the best pads in the world!
