Default Suggestion for Headphones for Live Click.

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good pair of low profile headphones for playing along to a click in a live situation. I was thinking like a pair of loud earbuds that weren't too obnoxious looking. Anyone have any experience with a good pair? Thanks

That's a bit of an oxymoron, any phones offering any isolation will be fairly prominent, and the good ones are going to stick out... not much you can do about it. My choice is the GK UltraPhones ($219 at www.gk-music.com)

If you don't need isolation, try the Sony MDR-7506 (the same drivers are used in the UltraPhones,) available just about everywhere for $100. The sound is smooth and full and will let you hear the click, although there's a fair bit of leakage - they're not designed to be iso phones.

Ear 'buds' won't really give you isolation either, but obviously you can spend less than $100. Or can you? Shure's over-the-counter in-ears get good reviews, but start at $100...

the Sony MDR-7506's do sound nice, I usually keep a few around the studio.

My guitarist went the cheap route and tried to use earbuds for stage monitoring, and pretty much had to buy a new set every month or so. Those consumer grade models just won't hold up to the rigors of gigging, usually.

I've used Shure and Westone pro IEMs, and highly recommend them for monitoring onstage. There's a bunch of other brands that are probably just as good (or better) but they get pricey pretty quickly. Depending on the model, you can get decent isolation and they're really convenient.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I have a pair of the 7506's and the quality is great. In the live situation, I don't really care what the quality is like, I just want them to be loud enough so I can hear the click over the music. The click is all that I would have coming through them. I'm reluctant to take the 7506's gigging because they're a nice pair of studio phones. The GK ultra phones seem real nice for playing along to backing tracks or electronic kits (I might get a pair just for my vdrums) but are too much for what I'm looking for in the live situation. Thanks for all the help. I'll check out the shure earbuds. They seem to be at the forefront for in ear phones. Hopefully, for the price, they're durable as well.
