Default drum tray or shelf - DIY?

Anyone know what I can use for this? The items I see at the online music stores are pretty steep. I want to clamp a shelf to my hi-hat stand to hold a metronome and my remotes (DVD and stereo). Any DIY ideas?

Tinkering with hardware is fun. I could suggest some things, but what kind of tools do you have? What is your experience working with wood or metal? Do you weld? Can you cut wood at angles? Care to post some pictures of the kinds of products you're looking to duplicate?

I don't mean to discourage you, but you're asking a pretty broad question. Yes, it's possible to DIY a great shelf, or even a so-so shelf - but it all depends on your experience and skills and tools.
