Default New DW Snare!

Happy birthday to me...
I was able to land a pretty rare DW snare the other day.
It's a 6.5" SOLID SHELL DW Edge. I haven't seen too many solid shell Edges before. When it arrives I'll take some pics of the shell, and hopefully get some audio files up from my new "home studio".

Very cool. I've only seen a couple of those listed on ebay. You're right, they are rare.

I have a 6 X 14 Edge with a ply shell and it's great. The drums have a brighter sound than the maple drums due to the brass rings. They are very loud and very heavy.

You'll fall in love with it. DW makes awesome snares and that one is really awesome.

Have fun with it.

what does that thing weigh? Like 30 pounds?

I picked one up in a local store once and couldn't believe how heavy it was. I'm fairly certain that one was not a solid shell...

It sounded really good too, but not good enough to spend the 1200 or so dollars that they were asking.

Yeah, happy birthday to you!!
Great present you got there...though one thing I don`t know: How does this shell construction work exactly??

Looking forward to hearing it...

Well, I received the snare yesterday....and it's not what I thought it was.
The guy I bought it from listed it as a new "DW Edge Series 6.5x14 solid shell snare"

When I opened the box, I immediately noticed that the seams on the inside and outside of the shell didn't match up. I sent an email to DW customer service, just to be sure. The guy from DW CALLED me up like an hour later. (DW is the BEST!)
He said that it was in fact a 7 (good eye, ClassADrummer) x14 10-ply Edge.

Anyway, it's a fantastic snare, but not worth the money I paid for it. I have filed a complaint with Paypal and eBay. I asked for $ 150 back from the seller, or a complete refund. The guy hasn't gotten back to me, but has over 100 positive transactions with eBay.
...buyer beware!

Sorry to hear about that Hateplow. Hopefully he refunds a bit and you can just keep it. So you are saying it is NOT a solid, right?
Now that I look at the picture, it looks more like a quilted maple. On the solids, the grain usually runs horizontally, right?

Thanks. I am getting a full refund, plus 20 bucks. I would've kept it, but the guy who sold it seems to think he can get more than 550 for that snare. I've got my eye on a Zelkova or a Brady Jarrah Block (both 6.5).
Stay tuned...

that was a good price for an Edge even though it was misrepresented. Did you like it sound wise. I love my DW Neil Peart Edge so much I just got another.

Sweet drum!

I have a 6x13 on the way.. It's coming for a small shop in the states so I probably won't see it for another two weeks or so.. but I'm waiting.

Here's a pic of it...

I'll get full pics of it uploaded once I have it.

(If I sleep a lot, will it show up faster?)

Cheers

Mini-lugs!
Now that's a classy edge!

Here's the snare I got instead of that 7x14 edge...
6.5x14 Brady Jarrah Block. It will go well with my 6x12 Birch Stave Unix is making for me.

Premium drum! Brady is right here in Oz.. and from what I've seen, they are a great company.. Funny though, no one that I know here uses one. they're quite pricey.

I think my next one will come from Unix.. I went to his site and fell in love with the birdseye maple he uses for his avatar..

Let us know how the Brady goes for you!
