Default Yamaha

I saw this Yamaha Absolute Maple kit in a pawn shop for $1799.
The sizes are 8x8,8x10,9x12,12x14,14x16,16x22, and with all the stands you see, plus a Yamaha foot pedal. Is this a good deal? I've never seen a high end kit like this in a pawn shop.

I would definitely check out the drums in depth (bearing edges, ect.) and then buy them. Good deal, Great drums. Great hardware.

Although the bottom of the stand holding the two floors doesn't look like it's Yamaha. Being a pawn shop, I would try to talk down the price, or if you have some old junk laying around, you could barter a little.

...I don't know what the drum market is like in your town, but if you are patient, and they sit for a couple of months you may be able to weasle the price down.

They do look nice, and I don't think there is really any question regarding Yamahas quality.

Not such a good deal I'd be stressin' over. Here's a Yamaha kit on eBay with cymbals http://cgi.ebay.com/Yamaha-White-Mic...QQcmdZViewItem not the same sizes, but similar. That stand bottom looks like a Ludwig hercules stand, with a blue/olive sticker. If that's the case, it's probably worth more to a Ludwig cat than a Yamaha bottom. Nice drums.

If it's a Pawn Shop...A fast nickel beats a slow dime...or something like that. ;-)

Does that make my Gretsch's vintage? :)

Tell me you're not considering buying these...not that I'd blame you. Yamaha = *drool*

I agree sir. I don't think it's one of those situations where the pawn shop owner doesn't know what a gem he has. He's not cutting you a crazy good deal. On the other hand, if you can talk him down...

1800 bucks for used yamaha's, no offense, but deals come around. And a pawn shop, sometimes stuff is "stolen", or have mystery damages, like drums out of round. Really look into these things. I'd say stick to your luddies :D
