Default Han Bennink

watch this video and you will understand what makes me tick:

Han Bennink is crazy good. He doesn't show off here - but I'd put his hands against anyone. His inventiveness knows no bounds. Sometimes he "hams it up" live, which can either be great or awful (imo) but his playing is astounding and the man is a marvel.

Neat video. I've got a few recordings with Han Bennink, but never actually saw any footage. Always neat to see what these guys are doing to create some of these sounds. Actually, this still seems pretty conventional from an improvised music point of view. I was actually surprised to see him behind an actual kit. It seemed like this video seemed to show him playing lots of notes, and staying really busy. Not a lot of the space that I've heard him use in other things. Using space in this music is one of the hardest things to do I think, particularly from a percussionists standpoint. Very exposed, very naked feeling (to me). Great footage Erik.

Not bad, but try this one Aydee.

The sound isn't great, as for the first time in the history, I'm about to say: "You can't hear Brotzmann very well"

But Han starts killing it around the 2 minute mark through to the end.
