I don't officially play any other instruments, simply because my dough must go towards drumming first, but I can play guitar fairly well. Thats my next purchase after a really great drum kit, a Slash sig. Les Paul and a Krank half stack..........the best things in life are NOT free.

I play the piano from time to time..thats the first instrument I ever got. I used to dabble in the guitar for a bit, but it doesn't really interest me as much as drums do, so my guitar usually just sits in my room.

Guitar, bass, keys, and lead vocals. Oh yeah, and somebody gave me a ukelele for Christmas last year.

Bass and keys, really like jamming on the bass sometimes but at other times I get frustrated because I hardly practice :)

I play trumpet, piano, and drums.
I have all the instruments I was lucky enough to have parents that could afford and actually buy me these instruments.

After 16 years of focusing everything on drums I picked up the bass about 2 years ago and play more bass than drums at the house. I still play drums in the band and practice drums quite often, but find that trying to learn this other instrument has helped inspire things creatively in my drumming as well. It definitely takes away the staleness of the "plateau" everybody experiences from time to time and is actually quite enjoyable. It's going to take a long time for me to get band worthy on the bass, but learning is the funnest part if you ask me.

p.s.- James Jamerson is my hero (my bass hero, that is)

I play around with my acoustic guitar occasionally, but I'm not willing to invest the kind of practice time into it to actually get good. I've come this far with the drums, and I keep my focus there for the most part. I do play an Ashiko as well.

Piano and trumpet - and a little saxophone - but not the kind most here would like to listen to.

Oh - and baritone in high school for our concert band (same fingering as a trumpet) since my director needed someone and the drum parts weren't too difficult in the *snicker* concert band.

My fingers hate the guitar but I like putting it flat on a table and playing it like that. Sort of Keith Rowe-ish.

Playing another instrument opened up the way I communicate with other musicians. It's definitely easier to express your musical vision when you have some idea what it takes for them to play part of it.

I play the guitar and the piano, and I sometimes mess around with a tin whistle. I'd love to play the saxophone and the trumpet, too.

I just started saxophone lessons at the music school this schoolyear. That way I'll have my diploma of music school without taking drum lessons (the teacher couldn't be any worse), so I can do conservatory later, for drums...

I actually started as a piano player. Learned to play all by ear, then started learning to read music when I started trumpet in the school band. That's about the time I started drums too. Later on I started on the guitar and once I had that, the bass seemed a pretty easy transition. I still play drums more than anything, but it makes me a pretty versatile musician, and I'm pretty desirable to the local music scene because of my ability to listen to the band and play songs I've never heard before. But I still need to work on my chops ALOT!

I play the guitar (mainly acoustic, but also electric) and the bass guitar. I also used to sing at a fairly high level (classical singing) and occasionally dabble in the keyboard. I can also play the didgere-du to a lesser extent.

I'm very intrigued by the didgeridoo; both it's sound and appearance. I had a very brief lesson once and it seems quite difficult to really master. I'm going to have to get one someday.

Been drumming for 18 years this year....wooooooo)....it has flown by!

I picked up the guitar about 12 years ago and that's a lot of fun to jam on with friends (acoustic and electric, depending on the mood)...I dabble a bit with the bass as well and I sing....usually end up doing the BV's in the band.

As I said in the "introduce yourself" thread a few minutes ago, I had to give up the drums after some rather expensive surgery on my wrists. My doctor strongly suggested that I not play any more because of the real possibility that I might lose the use of my hand(s) altogether. Well, you can take the musician away from the music, but you'll never take the music from the musician. After 3 or 4 years of going crazy without any artistic release, I decided to try my hand (no pun intended) at keyboards. We always had a piano at the house when I was growing up, but I guess I was intimidated by the fact that my brother, mom and sister could all play so well so I never really messed with it as a kid. I'd always been fascinated with synthesizers and I've always loved the sound of the Hammond organ. I was lucky enough to find a couple of keyboards (pawn shops suck to sell anything at, but are a fabulous place to BUY!!) for mere pennies on the dollar. I now have 2 "real" digital synths- an '80s vintage ESQ1 and a much newer Halo along with 3 software synths which emulate the older 70's analog synths: the Moog Modular, MiniMoog and ARP 2600 and one soft synth version of an early digital-the Yamaha CS80. These instruments, in conjunction with Cool Edit Pro, have enabled me to actually continue with my musical output. I was pleasantly surprised that I could actually play keys to some degree, and in 3 years, I think I've gotten competent. I'm no Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman or Jimmy Smith, but I can make music on these things...I guess one could more accurately call me a "composer" who happens to be able to hammer out stuff into the ESQ's sequencer so it can play the notes...whatever the method, I can make music. Whether or not it's listenable to anyone but me is another issue entirely.

You be the judge.

PS: Off topic, but on my mind at the moment: Does this site have a clickable smily table? My options say "smilies enabled", but I don't see them...:-/

{EDIT} I posted (as attachments) some pix of my keys but for some bizarre reason they don't show up on the post here. If anyone wants to see them and knows how to GET to them, that'll be cool. :-)

ahem... Editing the EDIT... NOW they are showing up as inserted images- something I didn't specify mainly because I figured if you wanted to see the full-size images you could hit the thumbnail and not have to wait for everything to load if you are stuck on dialup (as I am). Oh well... whatever.

I know I just double posted, but I give up.

I just EDITED the previous post, adding some images of my keys as well as explaining them, but neither the images or the edits show up on the post, but they DO show up when I previewed the post... WTF??

I am a member of other forums hosted by VBulletin and I thought I knew what was going on here, but I guess I don't. My attachments don't show up, I have no clickable smileys, nor do text shortcuts like :) work... Guess I'll stick to straight text and hope the occasional joke or sarcastic comment doesn't get misunderstood...

I've been learning the violin for a few years, but I'm not very good. I don't expect to ever play with others. I just do it to get a different perspective on music. It's a very tough instrument - it takes a lot of work just to get a decent sound out of it. After trying to learn it a bit, I have some insight into why some people say the drums are simple.

I played bass for about 6 years but Carpal Tunnel put a stop to that. It wasn't too bad but I didn't want to push my luck.

Now I can't play a lick :) It's too bad. I had a G&L SB-2. I loved that bass :(

Some of you here may not consider this an instrument (you are wrong, btw :) ), but for those of you who are familiar with it / play one; you will know what I mean.

Aside from tubthumping, (I dont really consider my aimless noodling on guitar and bass the ability to play) but I do 'play' the MPC 2000XL. It is a sampler/drum machine/MIDI sequencer all in one.

It looks like this :

Hahah, Im so old skool my truck gold chain is giving me neck pain...Yeah the floppy drive is the only drive I use, I convert all my samples and drum hits and bass sounds to mono before loading them onto a floppy, so it usually doesnt come to more than 1.4 Meg. If it does, for the meantime I just use 2 Floppy's, but at some point I may get a CF card reader cause it has the capacity to contain one...It might make transferring audio between Logic and the MPC a bit easier.

Havant, eh, my folks live in Barnham! We should hook up sometime when Im down there.
