Default Another month, another Bosphorus!

Hey DW!

As some of you might be aware of, I was planning on purchasing a pair of auxiliary hi-hats. Back when Rob (fourstringdrums) had a full setup of Turks, I was eying his 12" Turk hats, and after he planned to sell them, I told him back in early July that I wanted to purchase them from him. Well, I got them on Friday, and after a day or so of messing around with them, I finally picked up my hi-hat stand from the studio where I practice (as I'm packing the drums away to move them down to VA). After hearing them on the stand, I was even more impressed with the sound. But enough of that, here's the video with them so you can get a good idea of how they sound.

As a sidenote, I'm starting to like the whole videopost thing. I may do this more often with my gear/playing. :)

Wow, I`ve never heard such a happy undertone in a voice. Really never.
And this happy almost sunshine smiling is like warm melting butter on my crisp roasted toast. You`re a sympathic guy.

Hey and as for the hi-hats: They sound wonderful, REALLY dry. Quite thin and yeah, great as main hats, great as secondary hats in a set-up.
Tony from cymbalsonly once told me that Bosphorus Turks are not as stiff feeling as Istanbul Turks...what do you think, are these Bosphorus flexible and mellow?

have fun!

Karl

Turks are looking fantastic. i wish i don't like their sound as much as i like the sound of traditional and master cymbals.

They sound great, I like the chick they produce, and i think they would be good as main hihats. For some reason, I feel that cymbals from Bosphorus / Istanbul, seem to be extremely versatile, maybe because they are hand made.

I think that in a couple of years, Istanbul and Bosphorus will be the main cymbal companies.

Karl: Haha, thanks for the comments on my demeanor. I was just so impressed with the sound of these hats, and I was looking forward to making a video. The Bos Turks (as I haven't ever set sticks upon an Istanbul Turk) aren't stiff at all. Actually, holding the top hat in my hand, I can flex it slightly. Considering they're 12" in diameter, having flex in a cymbal like that can be attributed to it's thinness. And yes, they're very dry.. I love that aspect of them!

Avey: Interesting that you say that: I own three Trads (hats, crash, ride), a Masters (ride/crash), and these new Turks. And honestly, the more I experience the Turk and Masters lines, the more I like them than the Trads. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't sell my Trads for anything, but personally I like the complexity of the Masters and the dryness of the Turks. Oddly enough though, I'm not big on the Masters Turk "hybrids". Go figure, huh?

Tuxido: Couldn't agree with you more. But I feel better about having bought my Bos's now, rather than waiting for Bos to get big and increase in general prices. By the way, you've got two very nice Bos pies yourself.

Im not to big a fan of the open hi hat sound, but everything else sounds amazing. I especially love the heavy sound of when you slam them shut. Good stuff.

Glad you like them Graham! Once again :)

If anyone is interested, here is an mp3 I made for Graham before he bought the hats.

Nevermind the playing *lol*

Happy roasting!

haha, really, his indirect smile was great and made me smile, too.
Felt a big warm wave of happy ecstasy.

Again congrats to the hats man!

They sound really great. I also own a set of bosphorus and I would really recommend you a pair of 14" Master Series Hi-Hats and the 16" traditional (paper-thin) crash. I have them and they sound really great in every situation.

Steve: I have considered eventually purchasing some 14" Masters Custom Light Hats, and while the 16" Paper Thin does sound enticing, I prefer a larger, more sustaining crash. Right now I have a 17" Trad Dark Crash, however it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Eventually, I'll probably go for the thinnest 18" Masters that I can find.
