Default Obligatory newbie question.

Alright, I just bought a Ludwig CS Accent and I'm new to the drumming gig. After a while I wore out the stock heads on it (playing too hard) and went back for new heads and the owner gave me Remo Pinstripes, which I'm not too happy with. I figured it was incorrect tuning, but apparently they are meant to sound this "flabby."

So now I want to get another set of heads, what would you all prefer? I'm into rock, heavy mainly, metal, and the sort.

Aquarian Studio-X, Remo Emperor (or Remo Ambassador), Evans G1, G2.

I am a big fan of using Remo Muffl's with the Accent series drums. The Muffl's DO NOT drown out the sound of the drum, in-fact... I think it helps the sound. No matter what heads you choose... try the Muffl's. They will shock you.

I play somee rock and metal too.

I have Evans G2 coated on my toms, power center reverse dot on my snare and emad2 clear on my kick.

I'm very pleased with them! I have them for about 2 months and the coated is still there and living long.

Also you can try evans EC2 EC1 in the toms and snare, I do not prove them jet but the opinions that i heard (specially in the snare) are very good.

So you can try with them.

With Remo I've played with pinstripes, Coated Emperors and some Emperors with reverse Black Dot, Personally i think they loose the tone fairly quickly so i recommend you try with Evans

hope this helps!

I recently changed heads from Coated Pinstripes to Coated Emperors using Coated Ambassadors on the resonant side. I play Ludwig Classic Birch and noticed a much improved sound for rock that has more bottom. Experimenting however is really the only way you will arrive at the sound YOU are looking for.

I play alot of the same types of music that you do and have had great luck with the Evans EC2's clear with Evans G1's on the reso side. EC2's dont have that dead sound that the pinstripes have. You may want to consider the clear Evans G2's over clear G1's for a little more open sound. I have used both and prefer the EC2's. Good luck!

While Pinstripe heads are not my choice of head for anything but when I was playing Vistalites, they shouldn't sound "flabby". They're a 2 ply head with muffling between the ply's. To me, "flabby" would just translate to "heads are too lose".

The Evans EC2 clear heads on toms are just incredible. They're not as 'bangy' as most clear heads, and they really sing. Very easy to tune, they kinda fall into place. You'll hear it.

I'm not a big fan of the EC2 coated though. They don't have a lot of snap, but of course sound is really a matter of preference.

I gave the EC1 a try, and they're just a little stiff. Not choked, but definitely not as sweet as the EC2.

The clear EC2 heads that Bermuda mentions would be similar to Remo Emperor (another 2 ply head), both should sound good on a Ludwig Accent kit. The "hydraulic" head is very similar to the Pinstripe (2 ply with oil in between vs. 2 ply with little hairs in between). If the Pinstripe is not to your liking, the Evans hydraulic is probably not gonna cut it either.

Bermuda,
What drums are you putting the EC2's on? Thanks.
