i suppose its a possibility, but not likely. most of the stuff that the pros use are given to them or they are paid to use it. and most signature products are a regular product with a name on the side. i suppose you could find Mike Portnoy using a Neil Peart DW snare because he admires him, but i think tama is paying him to much to use a regular tama maple snare. but usually, WONT HAPPEN

Yes. Actually, Mike Portnoy used one of Peart's setups to do a cover of one of his drum solos.

And pros have been known to use other artists signature cymbals.

Signature cymbals for sure:

Mike Portnoy uses Jojo Mayer's Fierce Crash

According to MD mag the drummers for Fountains of Wayne and My Chemical Romance use use Paragon Cymbals

Though are the only for sures that I have although I'm sure there are some drummers using HHX evos, etc. too so...

Not too sure about drums though although possibly snares I guess.

As for sticks, unless they really like them I'd say a pro would get their own custom or by standard model sticks instead.

Is he aloud to do that though? Play a different companies drums than the one he is endorsed by? I would think that is against the rules.

Edit- actually i just remembered that Peart use to use Tama, and Portnoy still does. Maybe somthing mixed in with that. Idk

Anders Jivarp, the drummer of Dark Tranquillity uses a Tama Lars Ulrich signature steel snare and a Sabian Signature Duo ride. Or is it a Signature Tri-Top ride?

Of course...that happens very often.
Many other drummers (like John Blackwell) use The Evolution cymbals...many other use signature sticks from other drummers.

I`ve also seen pros using signature snare drum of other pros.

But why? I think the answer is easy. If you like a sound of something you play it, right?
And if you like a product as a pro which was developed with another pro? Does it change anything?

I mean, a snare drum is a snare drum, a stick is a stick and a cymbals is a cymbal.

I think if Tommy likes Steve Gadd`s signature sticks he like them actually because they feel nice. For me it is nothing special when pros play "signature" stuff by other pros.

One of Daniel Adair's favorite snares is the Steve Ferrone snare.

I bring some answers....
lol

A player is allowed to use other signature gear provided it is under the brand of the players own endorsement.

for example - Jason Bittner sometime uses a Mike Portnoy snare at clinics.

It comes down to:
1, it gives the desired sound
2, it is covered in the endorsement contract.

That kit was a replica of the kit Neil used while endorsing Tama.

He is allowed to use other gear i the studio as long as no photos or anything are taken of him with the other gear.

Pretty much as long as there is no record of it, and nobody is there to see it happen ; )

Yeah.

I mean, people are bound to see it, but as long as the artist doesnt make a habit of it, it should be fine.

I think that the rule is that if they are in a club, they can do what ever they want....

One stage, in front of 30,000 people and being recorded for a DVD, it is a big deal.

I remember a story about a very prominent drummer who endorsed a Japanese brand showing up to play a TV show and using a Gretsch kit. I was told it was his way of telling the Japanese company. "Goodbye!" intentionally.

i think that Stanton Moore used to play Vic Firth Sheila E. model before he got his own signature... so yes, why shouldn't they play other pros stuff? it's all about the sound after all :)

This isn't really using other pro's stuff, but Alex Rodriguez of Saosin uses Gretsch stuff sometimes. I saw him recently at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, and he had a Gretsch kit while he is endorsed by Shine. But it may be rented stuff for touring, because they do that.

Rod Morgenstein was using one of Neil Peart's signature Paragon Chinas when I saw him w/ the Dixie Dregs.

I know I've seen other instances live, I just can't think of them offhand.

I'm not sure if I would ever sign an endorsement deal, just to keep my artistic freedom. Then again, I'm very human and I very much enjoy money. Though with my current playing level and genres of music I play, I shouldn't be too worried about that dilemma just yet.
