The thing about buying this cymbal on the internet is it will be different from when you hear it in a store. I put two of these exact cymbals side by side and the difference was night and day. I don't trust ebay or other internet stores when it comes to cymbals, because they will be different. Paiste is the only consisten company that I know of.

But it's a great ride that must be discussed.

I disagree. Zildjian cymbals are machined, not handmade.. thus there is a uniform quality about them right out of the factory. Yes, different builds of patina and damage will change the sound, but even if you buy it second hand, the likelihood of a significant sound change is rare. Paiste is no more consistent than Meinl, Zildjian, or Sabian. They're all uniform cymbalmakers.

Yes, I agree.
Buying from the internet means also risking somethin. Even exact sounds of the PARTICULAR cymbal won`t give you the 100% authentic feel and sound but those differences aren`t big.
I wanted to have a Dry Ride with some trashy qualities and this one was perfect. A good price for an amazing cymbal. Wanted to risk it and till now I`ve never regretted it.

Hey Karl, as you know we've got the same main ride. The 22" Dry Light. What a cymbal! I'm sure you're still happy with it. Anyway, I was playing a 19" Armand the other day with my Light ride and I actually found it to really clash with my Light ride. It was quite strange, maybe it was just my particular ride but the Armand had a brightness and tinny overtone that disagreed with my Light ride. I was rather disappointed as there was one for half price at my local store! Damn it, I was looking forward to checking them out together.
Did you ever end up getting the chance to check it out? I know you got the Mel Lewis ride which I thought thought was an absolutely brilliant purchase! Sounded amazing on your latest recording.

Yeah, right...we got the same models. And I`m still happy with it. It sounds so great, just a very unique sound. And it sounds so "honest". I mean, it shows how your swing sounds really. When playing on the Mel Lewis I feel like I would play on something very smooth and sparkling but when playing on the Dry Light it feels harder and every swing figure and every note is exactly hearable because it is so dry. That is such a beautiful contrast. lol

And yeah, had the chance to try the Armand 19". If had to choose one I`d definitly go for the Mel Lewis. The Istanbul sounds much darker and has such a woody stick definition.

thanks buddy,

Karl

Congrats Karl on your new K! I actually tried one of those last week while shopping for some new Zildjians. It really is a beautiful sounding ride, but it was just too dry for me. I almost opted to going with another 20" K Custom, but I decided on a 20" A Custom Ping Ride (along with some other A Customs...which are on their way).

Enjoy that K!

Peace.
