Default EMADs vs Super Kick II's

What are the differences with these? I really want a bass drum head that is pre-muffled and I don't have to add a pillow to muffle it some more. I've been hearing lots of talk about these two and I want to know what personally works best for you? Thanks!

The EMAD has a slappier sound, the Superkick II is more warm and round and focused. There is also the EMAD II, which I haven't tried but have heard good things about.

In my experience, the EMAD is more durable than the Superkick. After some use, the outer ply on the Superkick is proned to splitting, unless you use some sort of patch. If you're a hard hitter, go for the EMAD, if not go for the Superkick.

YEs, the SKII does split...I realized mine split right before a show (during set-up) so I had to slip over to the Guitar Center right down the street and they were out of 22" SKII, but, they had an EMAD II .....guy told me he liked that one better. I agree! The EMAD II has a better overall tone than the SKII....don't get me wrong....EITHER head is the way to go if you're looking for a PRE MUFFLED sound,...I've just played both of the 2 plys and I like the EMAD II better....for me.

I play it WIDE OPEN too!!

I find the emad to be more punchy. I like the thicker dampening ring and to tune it quite high.

I'm using a combination of SKII on batter, and an Evans EQ3 on reso. They sound great together. Nice and thumpy. You could even put a little pillow in there and it would probably give you that perfect funk kick sound. It's probably the best kick sound I've ever gotten.

I'm using an SKII batter, PS3 ebony reso on an 18"x24" keller shell DW. I use the Aquarian super-thin patch and this thing is punchy and sweet. The super-thin adds a little more feel, but adds durability to the head.

I am a true believer in the EMAD. I am currently using clear and it's plenty punchy. If punchy is what you are looking for I think you would be happy with an EMAD.
