I've currently got an Evans Genera on my DW Collectors solid shell 5.5x14 at home and I think it sounds awesome.

We've got a G2 on our DW edge at church and I feel like it sounds a bit too fat for that drum, it's a cryin' shame I tell ya.

What's that like on a snare?

I have an Aquarian Focus-X on my snare (after I found the Hi-Energy with dot too dead and the Remo Coated Ambassador too ringy).

I use Studio-X (clear) on my toms and I like their sound, but have always wanted to try the coated version at some point. Or the coated EC2's.

I love the Evans Power Center Reverse Dot but I always seem to go back to the good ol' Ambassador.

well it's definitely not as dry as a focus x. i tuned mine to have a nice fat sound... it had a bit of ring to it, but not much.

you should try it!

I've always used Evans Genera 2 coated, they sound really good on metal snares cranked way up.

When I first got my 70s Ludwig snare as a gift it had a silver dot (Ludwig) head on it probably from the 70s as well. Not bad but soon I replaced it with a Remo Ambassador which gave the best feel and sound. Since then I've tried a genera evans head-extremely dead sound, a g2 coated head-strange rebound, low attack but lots of ring, and now a Aquarian Texture Coated that is Ok but not great. On the maple snare I've tried a Genera, which felt like a Staccato head, very dry,, then I got a Modern Vintage Aquarian head on it. Very nice head, great feel, and sound but expensive. Next I'm trying Fiberskyn heads. Overall my votes are for Remo Ambassador, Aquarian Modern Vintage...

Evans EC Reverse Dot. I just tried it out on both my 5x14 Gretsch Maple and my 4x13 Saluda Birch and it's my favorite snare head so far.

Evans ST dry. Has a really nice crack to it and can be surprisingly versatile.

At the moment, I'm really into Aquarian Modern Vintage (medium weight), it make myself having my own personal sound. None of any coventional mylar head sound like this ;-)
