Default Help with cymbal tighteners please.

Hi all,

I have Yamaha cymbal stands and boom arms and as you might know, the wing nuts to fasten the cymbals are made out of metal. My problem with that is I have boom arm placed the kick and since I don't clamp down the cymbal very much with the vibrations, the wing nut rattles. It's too audible (mics pick it up) so I have to change for a plastic wing nut. This sometimes occurs with the boom that is on the tom stand also.

At first, I was going to get the new Pearl Winglocks but they are unbelievably over-priced - 10 per Winglock. Considering I want to change all my fasteners (six of them) that is going to be far too expensive for what it is. I then found the Tama CM8P fasteners which are only 2.49 per unit.

My question is, would they be compatible with my Yamaha stands? I've checked in my Tama catalogs to try and find out the diameter of Tama stands to see if they are the same, but no succes there. Any help please?

Regards,
Christopher.

Hi.

all stands by leading names use 8mm threads, so they will be compatible.

Ive tried it as well, so it'll work fine.

hope ive helped.

I found some at a hardware store, in the metric section...nylon wing nuts.

I also have one of those on a tama arm and they fit regular 8mm threads.

I use www.slicknut.com but they are expensive.

If you are looking for a low-cost solution, Gruntersdad is correct. Nylon wing nuts are cheap and they will hold their position, even if they are loose in relation to the washers and felts.

Ok, thank you guys. You've answered my question.

I will go with the Tama cymbal tighteners - I don't feel like getting nylon wing nuts from a hardware store if they are going to be loose. I need to be able to have them tight (ex: ride, china) or loose. And I won't buy the Pearls (I know we are paying for the new patent but what a rip off!) or Slick nuts because I can't justify spending ten bucks per stand. All I want is a plastic replacement for my cymbal tighteners so I don't have any more rattling going on.

Thank you again,
Christopher.

I have been using the Tama T-Nuts for many years and I love them. But last year I discovered that Gibraltar is selling the same nut for cheaper, so I bought some of those and they look and work exactly like the Tama model. You can get a 4-pack of 8mm's for around $3.50.
