I've used a Roc-N-Soc Nitro for more than 10 years. Incredibly comfortable. But there are many other opinions - try the search function.

i really really really really love my porkpie throne. 120$ you can get it in anycolor you can think of... is a very nice throne. i suggest you go to Massmusic.net and take a look at that and the rock n sock thrones. both are nice.

I have a pork pie round throne, I'm a large guy and it supports me really well. I picked it up for $70 used.

the tama ergo rider is what i use and i LOVE it. It is much more padded than other thrones, and the shape is perfect. I originally bought a porkpie bicycle seat throne, but i quickly realized that the grooves through the padding forced me to sit only in that certain area. Therefore, when i played, I couldn't move back and forth easily.

i have a roc n soc nitro throne -- backrest and all. But i think if i get a second throne (maybe for gigging) i will try the pork pie round. It is comfy and is truly pimp.

I'm a fan of the Roc n Soc thrones as well. I used to use a round seat then went to the motorcycle style from Roc N Soc and found it much more comfortable to play. If you can afford it the backrest is nice to have!

have a look at the "modern drummer" issue 12/06 ... there was a big chair test.

the air lift looks great.

I have the roc n soc nitro with back rest and it is a nice comfy chair. I think it takes some getting used to, at least for me, as the bike seat and back rest can make your movements feel restricted.

One thing that no one has pointed out, is that with the back rest you can't just step over it to get in. You need to have enough room behind it so you can rotate and tilt it while getting in. You wouldn't want your set crammed into a corner.

My vote would be the Roc and Soc Nitro also. I bought one last year because my back and legs began hurting after i played for an hour. It is by far the best chair I have ever used. My posture is better beacause I am more comfortable and I can play for hours with no pain.

if you plan on keeping it at your studio or house or whatever, i would go with the roc n soc. i have one and i can tell you they are very comfortable. i too am skinny and it has the much needed cushion. if you plan on doing tons of gigs, a round seat may be better for transportation purposes. the roc n soc is big and can be annoying to carry around.

I'm a Roc-n-soc guy too and being that the throne is the most used piece of drum equipment, choose wisely. I spent a lot of time, at a few different music stores testing thrones. I found the RNS comfy, quick adjusting, and extremely sturdy and stable. Four legs vice three, the shock style height adjustment, and backrest just made it a hands down winner. It might be the most costly ($150) but you definitely get the most out of what you'll spend.

I would suggest the DW 5000, sturdy as hell, Feels great, all my friends that are drummers sit on it and ask if they can keep it. cause it is so comfy. Pretty thick foaming, you sink into it. i bought it over the roc n soc and the porkpie.

have you already got one etc?
