I remember seeing a pic somewhere of Bonham behind the kit and I noticed the Remo crown logo off the snare drum head, so I'm pretty sure it was Remo heads (coated emperors or ambassadors).

Info here: Drum Heads

Bonham always used Remo Coated Double-Ply Emperor drum heads on the batter side and Remo Coated Ambassador single-ply drum heads on the resonant side, and Remo Controlled Sound (C.S.) Black Dot drum heads on his acrylic vistalite kit. from this web site here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bonham Evans, actually, invented the mylar drum head, as we know it. Remo came along, put their twist on it, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Thanx for the info ..Emperors and Ambassadors ..I'll try it.

Btw, on that video, felt strips in the bass drum? ..I sure can't find any evidence of that in pics or vids of Bonham. Seems it'd show somewhere.

Old school drum trick. There are some photo's that it does show. You have to remember, the Remo Pinstripe head was invented somewhere around 1973. Powerstroke3 even later, if my foggy memory recollects. Before that, homemade richie rings and felt strips were the order of the day.

Seems the double-DVD would reveal felt, but the bass drum is clean as a whistle ..all of them. On the French tv broadcast though, strong light is showing through Bonham's kick, and it looks like theres a small pile of something inside ..anyone notice that?

The Amber kick is usually seen with a Remo Controlled Sound head batter (Black Dot). So if you're looking for the felt strip there, you probably won't find it. Remember, he never recorded with the Vistalite kit. The Ocheltree video, I think, is addressing more, how Bonham got his studio sound. (been a while since I've watched the video).
