now, hopefully you guys can help me identify these agop cymbals. I am under the impression that there is no such thing as a mehmut agop, as this is what i was told on another forum, but what do we have here?!?!? any help in identifying what model this cymbal is would be greatly appreciated. Actually, on that note, if anyone can help identify the model of any of the cymbals in the next post, thatd be great!!

Basically, the Istanbul company was founded by Mehmet and Agop in 1981(?). In 1997, Agop died and the companies split into two distinctively different companies. Hence the Agop and Mehmet signatures on the bottom of your signatures, because these cymbals are pre-split Istanbuls.

Well play it if you like it. The Istanbuls in general are nice cymbals, and they're not all that rare. Keep playing it, just make sure you keep using the correct techniques and striking methods and not to clamp it down too tightly. If you like the sound, keep playing it!

on the same topic, is anyone able to identify what range those cymbals are in? I like the sound and all, so it doesnt matter so much, but if i ever came to sell them or identify them in the future, i dont really know what they are called , which is no good!

Mhhh, is the relationship between the two family companies peaceful, do they have a friendly relationship or are they real concurrence for each other??

For me it seems sometimes that they don`t even have a real relationship anymore...

lol, i do, but due to space restrictions its not being played at the moment.

I only have enough space for either the ride or the floor tom, and with only having two crash cymbals, the ride is more necessary. so the floor tom has been relegated to becoming the beside table for my glasses at night

Thanks Karl :)

And no, i hate the ZBT's. The ride is all clangy and one dimensional, and the hats are too undefined and sound too much like metal crashing (which of course they are, but you know what I mean!)

I do like the istanbuls, but ideally id like a 20 or 22'' bosphorus ride and 14 or 15'' hats by the same manufacturer. One can only dream and save up ;)

I honestly don't know, but I'm guessing they get on fairly well. After all, it has only been ten years since the companies split and although they seem like totally separate companies (completely and utterly) there doesn't seem to be a massive amount of animosity between them.
