Agreed. I'm not a Paiste man but that is a nice looking cymbal.

It would seem to be more like a splash China. Never heard of such a thing, but it might be a neat idea.

I love the 2002 series, basically played them all my life, but was never interested in any 2002 china, for china's I use the inexpensive wuhans.

thanks for the kind words everyone.it is essentially a splash with the edges turned up.it sounds very much like a heavy 'rock' splash, with a very short decay.i wasn't sure when i ordered it,what it was going to sound like, and although i'm happy with the sound,if i had looked at paiste's off the shelf range of splash cymbals a bit more extensively then i'm certain i could have found something that sounded almost the same.although, this did cost me only 93 which i think isn't bad for a custom order, and about the same as a good splash cymbal anyway.plus,i think this little cymbal looks amazing :)

There are certain sounds you will only get out of a higher-end China cymbal (Paiste, Zildjian, Sabian, etc.). Wuhans (and I've owned a few and love them) have a great authentic Chinese trashy sound. A Zildjian, on the other hand, has a much more musical tone with lots of breath, shimmer and gulp. This is a more European interpretation of the classic Chinese sound and isn't as well suited to short accents - but it has drama out the ying-yang.

Sabian do china splashes in the AA and one of the Pro ranges, I forget which now. I think that's right. They definitely do them cos I was gonna get one for a while.

I have a 10" Sabian XS20 China Splash that sounds absolutely amazing. Trashy, but it has a nice bright response with quick decay.
