Russian ex-KGB guys used to refer to their jobs as personnel/ human resources. Does the CIA also call their jobs "personnel?"

After spending 37 years with Ma Bell doing system development, program management, etc. They decided they no longer required my services in March '15. I've spent the last year working for an importer doing whatever the VP of Operations doesn't want to do. Primarily process engineering, quality assurance, and safety training and security inspections.

Typical Jack of All Trades, Master of None....

My day job is building and repairing guitars.
I also have a small property business that ticks over and doesn't need much input.

I walk and board dogs. It's a great day job because I stumbled into it more as a profession than a passion. As much as I love dogs, I wouldn't go to school for animal science or anything. So I can focus on it as a job and not have it affect my passion or hobbies. Whereas I never want drumming or surfing or my other hobbies to become related to my day job so as to affect my enjoyment of those things...

Rocket Scientist

Well, not really a Rocket Scientist. An aerospace engineer.

Well, not really a aerospace engineer. But I do work in the aerospace industry and I am an engineer.

Well, that's the label they gave me... eventually.

Manufacturing Engineer (figures out how to put designs together) for a major aerospace company. I can't say who but it rhymes with boing.

Website testing [QA] for 12 years. Got to work on some of the biggest websites in the world. But now, the industry focus is on people under 34, so running head-on to 53 means I gotta figure out something else.

My "Day" job?
Well some People say I'm no good, and crazy as a loon
'Cause I get stoned in the mornin', I get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my old blue tick hound, I like to lay around in the shade
That pretty much covers it now. The only negative- I married a much younger women who is still running the race so I'm in the shade alone a good bit of time.

Since I last responded to this thread, I got a job at a community college, worked it for six years, and quit it. I'm now working as a workforce development policy administrator in central Washington state when I'm not making art, music, or food. I also write and illustrate children's books which you can check out here and here.

I am a staff accountant, 3rd year in the profession, for one of the local hospitals where I live in Colorado. Summers are tense as our fiscal year ends in June. So it is crunch time as well as auditor season for year in review. During work I do shell up by listening to a lot of music via earphones, eases my mind.

Long time no here! Work, moved, no internet, blah blah blah...

Anyhow, I'm still working at the same place. We still make Yamaha and ElectroVoice speaker systems, and now also Peavey. In addition, we build the Anna, Anya, and Otto cabinets for EAW. No guts, just empty and painted. We also sometimes do work for Klipsch and Fulcrum.

I no longer pack boxes, I am now the line lead. So I pull parts for orders, cut insulation for the cabinets, assemble rigging for flying models, test final assemblies, manage line personnel, train new people, troubleshoot and fix failed cabinets, and so much more. My job is cool as hell, tons of work, but extremely cool.

This is an EAW Anna cabinet. The square ones on the line in the back are ElectroVoice EVA2082s-126.

Nice topic given that a day job is necessary to keep the drumming financed.

Here in South Africa very few musicians get to live off their drumming and as such a day job is essential. At the moment I'm not gigging (tired of being my own roadie) but just play in my practice room because I LOVE DRUMMING :)

I work as an office administrator.

I am a secret agent. I pose as a very convincing electrician to gain access to peoples houses, but I'm really a well paid government secret agent that installs cutting edge spying technology in the form of nano gel on the inside of outlet and switch covers, and overhead lights. This gel broadcasts vision and sound and even smells to my laptop...the CIA, and the Girl Scouts of the greater San Fernando Valley area.

On the weekends I'm on call as a volunteer backup for Spiderman, but this month I'm helping Aquaman out. Spiderman is on a tropical island vacation for the month. I'm glad actually, he's a bit of a complainer.

Twice a year I get flown in to nuclear energy disaster sites and do the most dangerous job there, collecting the radioactive film that covers the inside of the thing that holds the plutonium rods that are plunged into the stuff. This film makes the best deodorant I've ever used.
