Oh, the saxophone is an awesome instrument. If I had to learn another instrument, it would be the saxophone.
I use Pearl, Zildjian Ks and A, Gibraltar, Vic Firth, Remo, and Vater.

For some reason I think of cheesy David Foster produced shmaltz of the mid 1980s.

There are classic tunes where I love it's inclusion, Seger/Turn the Page, Wings/Listen to What Main Said and one of my all-time favs Rafferty/Baker Street.

I played in a jazz quartet for many years & the lead was this young kid on sax. He was gifted & loved the greats like Charlie Parker et al.
Made me a better drummer for sure and I miss that tight group a lot.
If I had the chance to be in another jazz group, I'd jump on it in a Vega$ second (and that's FAST). :-D

There's just something about a sax being played hot that can get an audience on their feet.

For the most part, I love the sax, and consider it to be a beautiful instrument. My father has been a clarinetist with several orchestras and marching bands since he was in junior high school, and a few years ago, he picked up the alto sax and began to learn jazz techniques. However, I tend to fast forward through the sax solos on most jazz fusion songs since there is a fine line between impressively fast playing that fits the music, and over-embellishments that register as "noise." My dad has a slightly higher tolerance for jazz fusion than I do, but he also tends to be picky about sax players as well.
