Default Fife and drum historian Ed Olson

died yesterday. He was considered the foremost historian of marching and rudimental drumming in the US. He was also the curator of the Fife and Drum Mueseum.

With some of the recent topics grounded in the history of drumming, I thought some of you might be interested.

This site has some amazing rudimental drumming books available, including a book of the 3 common vesions of "Camp Duty." Check out some of the rudimental soloing books also. Basic to some darn hard stuff for you readers.

Although your post is several years old, I would like to thank you for posting information about this gentleman and the web link. It looks like a very good resource. I am new to the combination of drum and fife and appreciate good info.

Ed Olson, R.I.P.

If you would like to learn more about Ed Olsen an excellent interview recording had just been restored and made available on the Company of Fifers & Drummers website.
