Default Mutes for use with triggers?

My dream kit involves me switching between acoustic toms and triggered toms depending on the sound I want at any given moment.

Are there such things as "quick mutes" that will completely deaden the sound of a drum, are quick to engage and disengage, and will still allow the head to play naturally when muted?

I want to switch between my own massive home-built tom samples and the acoustic heads of the kit tuned a-la Simon Phillips. He lets his heads ring like crazy and it sounds amazing.

Preferably I could switch the mutes on and off mid-show.

Thanks!

Think you would be best getting a sample pad for that kind of think.

Sample pad. Or aquarian super pads + any trigger you can find that works... Keyword works

Yes, the Aquarian pads seem like the ticket, but keep in mind that you'll have to fit them and remove them depending on whether you want the triggered sound or the acoustic sound.

Maybe two kits on stage if you can manage?

Hmm the thing to do may be to sample the acoustic kit and just commit to either triggers or live depending on the show. It'd be way easier to just switch sample banks.

How big are the venues that you are playing, and how big is your PA?
Couldn't you have both mics and triggers set up on your kit and just run either the mics or triggers depending on what sound you want? A buddy of mine use to trigger his toms, and you couldn't hear them over the triggers. Granted, I never heard his natural tom sound, so he could have had them tuned fairly dead.

Heh. Well, given that I barely started learning drums, I don't think I'll be playing venues for a while. But yeah, small venues would probably require some kind of deadening of the heads so the sounds don't clash.

It was the same thing on guitar, I had my tone nailed before I even had any usable skill.

I forgot to mention that aquarian has the aquarian onheads.
They are more expensive but that's the best you can get so far.
