Default Best way to clean shells with matte finish

Just picked up a set with a matte finish. They need to be cleaned of some unidentifide crust. :P What's the best way to do this? I'm afraid that regular wood cleaner may leave an oily residue.

Advice?

May I see some photos?

When I do a satin (matt) finish on my guitars I do so with some beeswax rubbed in with Liberon 0000 steel wool.
I can't say that this will be suitable in this instance though without some photos.

Matte in what medium. lacquer, enamel.? Gretsch warns against using furniture wax on its finishes. I would try a damp cloth and see how that works before putting any chemicals or solutions on them.

Tough call! It's the reason why I'm staying away from matte finishes. They scratch super easy, crusty stuff can take off a layer and if not careful, you get shiny spots that will haunt you forever! Some sweet looking finishes though :(

It's on a set of Pork Pie USA Customs in a satin/matte finish.

I'll see if I can get some pics posted.

Step 1: Dry Towel to get off loose debris.
Step 2: Warm/Damp Towel (Only water) to get off stuck debris.
Step 3: A new Clean/Dry Towel to pull off the remaining debris and absorb any remaining water.

Best suggestion. The satin black kit I had, and my satin black les paul got that kind of cleaning.

Go easy on the elbow grease. Too much can and will polish it. For example, my les paul is worn shiny where my arm sits. Kinda sick of satin finishes lol.

If I don't hear from Bill, this is what I'm going to do.

Thanks!

Counter Top Magic. Great stuff, I use it on hardware as well. Never had any issues.

Matte describes the texture, to know what product is used to clean them, you need to know the finish material.
