Default JOHN BLACKWELL: R.I.P.

John Blackwell Jr. was just hospitalized in Japan because of bad health condition, and is now in the process of getting tested for what the doctors think may be tumors in his brain. And he and his wife Yaritza need your help for medical expenses and everything. For support, go to GoFundMe; https://www.gofundme.com/johnblackwelljr

I met him at two drum clinics here locally and what a great drummer and a great guy. God Bless. This photo was from a Dom Famularo clinic. John was a huge Dom fan and here Dom had talked John into sitting in.

RIP Such a loss. It's sad how much bad luck had seem to stick to John in the last decade.

Sincere condolences to his family, friends and all the drummer community.

That's awful news. Knew he'd been ill, but just came across it on the DW forum now.

He came across as a warm human being. And a fantastic player and musician.

Was hugely impressed by his early-2000s MD festival DVD appearance and his solo DVD. Great work with Prince too.

What a waste.

RIP.

Man was one of the best drummers I've ever seen or heard. I saw him play only once, never knew him, but really looked out for his demos clinics and so on. This is one of the drummers I modeled myself after in the mid 2000's. He was like a mix of DC Cobham and so on... I hate writing these but, what a talent. My Condolences

JB was credited as one of the drummers for the tune "Pusherman" in Bootsy Collins's new album World Wide Funk. Maybe his last recording?
