Default Tunes through Mixer issue?

While playing Tommy Igoe's Essential play-alongs with my IMac or phone with headphones plugged in I have NO issues.

But, if I use my phone as input into my mixer, I'm losing his countdown clicks and bass player. Well I should say I can barely, and I mean bearly hear them I've tried both of my mixers with same result. The settings on the mixer for that channel has the pan center, the hi and mid eq is turned to min, and the lo eq turned to max.

I'm using all stereo TRS cables.

Is it possible the recordings of these play-alongs are of issue? I'm baffled.

Any thoughts??

Now thinking about it tonite I should try any songs see if I have the same result.

Would it make any difference if you used two inputs on the mixer, for left and right?

Definitely use a Y cable into two channels, or into a stereo input with two seperate L and R plugs.

What's happened is you're putting a trs stereo signal into a trs balanced mono input. Balanced inputs reject any signal that's identical betwen the Tip and Ring connections. This is how it rejects interfence buzzes and hums. When you use a stereo signal (from the headphones) any centre-panned sound will be cancelled out.
A quick way to confirm this is to push the plug half in - sounds OK, then push fully in - centre sounds have gone.
