Reminds me of my 2nd band situation. The guitarist led things and played us a riff. I was hearing and feeling it as a heavy Bonham-esque feel. And he kept wanting me to play it different somehow. IIRC, he wanted me more on top of the beat but I just couldn't make it happen.
