Default Wing Tom

Do you know what a wing tom is? I've used the term on the Pearl Forum a couple times and every time people have to ask what it is. Surely this isn't an obscure term.

Nope - ya got me scratchin'. I'd guess it's a small tom off to the extreme left or right.

It's a tom that goes to the bar with his buddy, with the understanding that he's just there to help his buddy get banged.

I've seen the term used for rack toms. Floor tom , wing tom.

I wonder if they are talking about a gong drum?

I could see how someone would say they are "wing" drums.

I've always known it to mean and used it interchangeably for rack tom. I'm not sure where I first picked it up, probably from my dad who's also a drummer, but plenty of my drumming buddies I've grown up with use the same term.
