Default TAMA USA Contact

Anyone have any experience with or know how to contact TAMA to get wrap for drums to match older drums?
I went to the local guitar center in my city but the clueless kid working there said he couldnt order directly from Tama.

I don't think Tama would have that.

Are you building/wrapping a drum to match?

Best bet would be to contact Walopus or Drumbum and have a custom wrap made. If it's a common color you can just get a Delmar wrap.

Two avenues here:
  1. Dale's drum shop in Harrisburg, PA does quite a bit with Tama since Hoshino is right nexr door. Contact them and see what they say.
  2. Contact Precision drum company in New York City and see what they have to offer.

Yeah
I did this about 15 years ago through a Tama dealer in Denver and they ordered the wrap to match directly from Tama

Precision Drums is located in Pleasant Valley NY, not in NYC. And to the OP, they have are really friendly and easy to work with.

I live literally five minutes from Dale's, so if you need an in-person intermediary, I'm happy to help. Dunno what I could do, but I'll do it. :-)

A friend of mine tried to get a hold of Tama's customer service which he said was pretty ridiculous.

Another option would be to get in touch with bumwrap to see what they can do. It may be a much cheaper option.

Post your inquiry directly on the Tama Forum. The mods, who work in the Bensalem facility, will respond.

I wanted to replace die cast hoops on a snare with brass mighty hoops. I inquired about stock. When they said there were a few pairs in stock, I place my order with my local Tama dealer and it was there within a week.

On a couple occasions they've notified forum members that certain finishes were going to be discontinued, and to place an order if a drum was wanted in one of those finishes.

Wow that would be great. Maybe you could just find out if some info. If a consumer can order direct from Tama or if they can get it.
Thanks!

Update from the TAMA forum from a TAMA contact.
Not really much help from them at all :(
I find this odd because about 15 years ago I ordered wrap for a 24" kick to match my kit. Ordered it through a drum shop in Denver and they matched it perfecty.

Anyway here's the response from TAMA USA Customer Service Representative:

"TAMA doesnít sell wrap outright. Unfortunately we donít have the ability to order it in, but you might be able to check with other drum wrap manufacturers to see if they have something that matches.

TAMA doesnít keep many drums on hand. Most of the drums we sell today are in preconfigured shell kits. Add on drum are usually ordered from the factory and take 4-5 months to be build to special order for what sizes the customer is looking for. As for power tom sizes, the Imperialstar, Silverstar, and Superstar classic drum kits only go up to what we would call ďregularĒ tom depths(10x8, 12x9, 13x10, etc.). I think the only drum we currently offer something deeper in would be the Starclassic Maple or Starclassic Bubinga. These have options going deeper(10x9, 12x10, 13x11, etc.), but again, we donít have anything readily available on hand. Since we offer so many finishes and so many drum size options, we try to special order the customers exact size and finish when we get a request.

As far as Guitar Center goes, Iím not quite sure whatís going on. We receive a lot special order requests and individual drum orders from guitar center stores on a normal basis. Iím wondering if the associate you spoke to there wasnít aware they could special order from us directly. TAMA does not sell drums or hardware direct to consumers. We ask that customers buy through the music stores that support our line and carry our products. Guitar Center is definitely on of them.

Lastly, the drums you are looking for are a bit older and this is one of the issues in finding something to match/line up with your kit. Since weíve discontinued most of the power tom sizes, we donít really get too many requests for them. I would recommend keeping an eye out for anything on the used market to try and find something a little more original to what you want. Iím sorry I couldnít find exactly what you were looking for and hope you are able to find something close to your original kit!"

Update from Precision Drum:
Gary from Precision Drum is sending me a sample so they may be able to help, I know someone has to be able to get this.

STXBob, Wondered if you could check with Dales there an find out if they can get matching TAMA wraps from the 80's for me?

This image shows the color I need - TAMA called it Dark Red

Just go to Bumwraps.com and send them the image. They will print it and make whatever you want.

I don't know why you think a floor employee could order anything other than commercial product stock, if you wanted new wraps from Tama you should've got a manager over to contact them.

Everyone left some pretty good advice for custom work, I know Vegas is scarce for custom work but Cogs or Sin City Drum Shop might be a closer option. Otherwise maybe contact Sam Ash/GC managers and see if they can order the same wrap, goodluck!
