Default Need help finding the time signature of this song please...

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to figure it out the time signature of this song without success:

https://youtu.be/waO4J0lhFG4

The intro and verse seems to be in 4/4 but before the pre chorus the last measure seems to be in 9/4 and before the second verse the last measure of the pre chorus is in 7/4?

Only the chorus I know is 4/4 the rest is confusing to me.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Most of it is in 16/8-- 12/8+4/8. Or 3+3+3+3+4/8, if you prefer. There are some odd measures in there that are longer or shorter, but knowing the basic phrasing you can figure it out now.

Wow, this is really weird... Now I'm confused on how to count this...

The fastest notes of the riff are the 8th notes. If you can tap the 8th notes all the way through, you should be able to find the 3+3+3+3+4 thing.

Maybe also try counting it in a slow 5, holding the 5 longer than the other counts. The 1 is the highest chord of the riff, the 5 is the little 8th note run.

Don't count it, just play it. Learn the song by heart, in your head, not the drumming the music, and just play to it. I have done this before, stressing about time signatures and measures, but once you commit the song itself to memory it becomes easy. Then its nice to brag to people "Oh yes...I play this song, its a mix of 13/8, 12/7 and 9/5 time."

Yes, I know, and I want to learn this song. The reason for the time signature was to also transcribe it in a drum sheet. This would help me learn the song (and revisit it in the future) just having a draft of it. I think I'm going to transcribe it in a drum tab by parts instead of a drum sheet.

Thanks

No offense intended, as everyone has their own methods and opinions, but...

From someone who's been playing for 30 years (15 of those professionally), this is just bad advice. It's like telling a singer "don't bother learning what words mean... just learn the song and sing it". Yes, you can definitely learn that way. But the more intimate knowledge you have about any piece of music, the better you'll be able to play it, and the easier it'll be to recover if something gets "off". Also, the more knowledge you have in general about your instrument, and how to play it, the better musician you'll be.

Just my 2 cents

Actually I didn't... I was able to count the 16/8 notes on the verse, but the last fill on the verse before the pre chorus seems longer and does'nt fit on the 16/8th notes...

Yeah, there are a few odd measures in there. Count the slow 5, too. You know what the basic deal is-- keep fooling with it until you figure it out.
