Default buying cymbals?

Hi, i am currently looking at upgrading my drum setup and thought cymbals would be a good start. Everyone on here is always saying buy used, but here ( in New Zealand) we have quite a small used market. I have however found one piece that looks very promising. A vintage zildjian USA made avedis 14" hihat. And wanted to get your opinion on if it a good buy.
I play mostly jazz, funk, rock, so it needs to be versatile

Good man. Those hi hats are from the 70's, Vintage Zildjian A's were considered the most versatile hi hats ever. I own a pair of 15"'s from the 70's and love them. You should like them :)

Hard to say if they are a good buy because you didn't list the price. As far as the cymbals go, they are great cymbals. I have a set of 70's hollow logo New Beats and I like them more than my AAX's and almost as much as my HHX Evolutions. They are very versatile and go with anything. If the price is good I'd grab them.

Between this and the 3-ply Ludwigs you found, this is the best documented case of beginner's luck in the history of the forum. Well done!
