Default Head combination Help!

Is it alright to mix a bright sound batter head with a dark resonant head? Will it sound weird or would it be fine

It'll probably sound fine as long as you tune it well!

Definitely! Typically, this will result in a very articulate attack but shorter/darker sustain. Which heads are you considering?

Thanks for you response. I am planning to have the Remo Ebony Emperor as my batter head for the toms and Evans EC resonant for the toms

I wouldn't call Ebony Emperors bright. Probably a little darker than a clear Emperor, which are already darker than an Ambassador or the like (darker in this case meaning, basically, "more muffled"). Your combo should work very well for metal, hard rock, and other 'tweaked' drum sounds.

If well tuned, that should sound great. Peace and goodwill.

Wow, I just posted a similar thing, but I want to do a G1 or Amb (clear) over an EC Reso. when I think "bright" I think single ply, like a G1, Amb, Classic Clear, and so on.
