I really like the 1st Garbage album. But I think they over thought on the 2nd album, and lost that spark. Other than a few songs here and there, I stopped following them.

I think he's spot on. I've never understood them. Other than they've had some great drummers through their ranks over the years.

Semi-old fart!! :-)

Never understood why they got rid of Abbbbbruzzzzzessse though. That guy added some serious groove to the mix.

For the life of me, I cannot understand a single damn thing about American Football

Grid Iron....all they seem to do is stop, start, stop, start

They only play for about a minute, then basically restart again

They are all done up in pads and helmets and there is heaps of fanfare

Maybe I am missing something here

They always have NICE cheerleaders though...

I would LOVE the game if Amanda Peet was a cheerleader in Grid Iron

I with you and I was born here. I went to a football game and I was so lost. Pretty boring experience too. They're running to one side. They stop. They start again. They stop. How the hell is this so popular?

Yes, but if she asked you on a date, of course, you'd have to consider the affect on the cheer leading team, & graciously decline ;) ;) ;)

Yeah, American Football is an acquired taste. I'm a yank but live in Oz. I love the game personally and played it in high school. Great fun. There are lots of rules and the strategy side of the game is huge...kinda like chess really.

I've had so many Aussies come up to me and say what poofs the grid iron players are for wearing all those pads, but that comes from ignorance of the game. Those linemen are mostly 190cm+ tall and weigh upwards of 140 kilos. And they are quick, amazingly so. Maybe not fast, but their foot speed is incredible. You get hit by a man that size you know it!

Patterns? Nope.

I play every single 16th note every time in every song all at the same volume. Stone taught me well!

That is still a pattern. A monotonous one but it repeats.

Every rudiment is a pattern. Every song can be broken down into patterns. Our lives are patterns (wake, work, home, sleep, repeat [or whatever your schedule might be]), our heart beats in a pattern. When we walk our legs follow a pattern. We do the same things, all the time. Habits are patterns. Everything I look at I see patterns. Seasons, planets, even life and death is a pattern. Aarrgh, I can't make sense of it!

Many times I've heard people say that they were completely disgruntled at the service they received at a store, or totally disgruntled with band mates, or disgruntled about equipment, but never once have I heard someone say the exact opposite: that they were completely and totally gruntled. Why is no one gruntled? Are we a nation without gruntle? Where did all the gruntle go? I wanna know who's got all the gruntle?

I've thought about this many times so I guess it's not a totally random thought but there is no thread titled "semi-random thoughts". That fact leaves me a little disgruntled.

I had a severe panic attack last night. Never had one like this before. I mean I have had the "something doesn't seen right" and I become uneasy feeling before, but nothing like this.

While going down the highway at like 75mph on the way to my in-laws, a semi that was next to us flipped on its blinker and started coming into my lane. My wife was driving. It forced us into the median and I swore I was going to die. We had to pull over before we got there so I could get out of the car and calm down. On the way home it was even worse. I felt like I was in a big steel coffin and was panicking severely. My wife got us home safely, but I felt impending doom the whole ride back. I have never been so scared in all my life.

Those who suffer from panic attacks, I have felt your pain, and I cannot imagine having to put up with it on a regular basis.

Scary stuff Mr IP! It made me think of Duel. Every now and then you get thrown a curly one on the road.

You're allowed the occasion brain freeze. I've lost count of my meltdowns. Might be a good idea to practice catching your fight or flight response before it gets out of hand, though :)

I am not a very good passenger to begin with. Being in a car is dangerous and most people don't pay attention. I think it was the truck coupled with me not being in control of the car. I was fine in it today and we were on a very twisty mountain road. Hopefully this wont happen again.

Andy, if I can get somewhere on foot or a bicycle I do that quite often. I like the exercise and I don't have to worry about drivers. People think I am crazy for walking, like once I became driving age I am only supposed to go places in a car. I never understood this.

I agree, Mr IP. I hate driving. I have no sense of direction and everything happens quickly. So I'd rather walk when possible too.

But in most us, convenience usually trumps good intentions unless we really make an effort, which can be a drag lol

Tell you what, if you want to worry about stuff, how about this one? Last night I saw a documentary where they said that if a large asteroid came to Earth there's a fair chance we'd see it from a long way off (especially in Russia).

BUT ... there's such a thing as rogue black holes that have fallen out of whatever orbit they were on and are just hurtling through space. If a rogue black hole arrived we'd be unlikely to see it coming. A small mini black hole would basically drill a hole straight through the Earth and set off seismic activity that would pretty well bomb us back to the stone age. They reckoned that Yellowstone would go up and after that it would be good night Irene.

We are born on the precipice and our lives unwittingly dangle on the edge until we run out of luck. Make hay while the sun shines Just thought I'd share these cheery thoughts :)

just got an spd-sx sampler from an online music store fri. Thur i noticed i had gotted a virus from dl'ing a music editing program so all the music i edited for the sampler i was stoked to get was saved on my laptop.
Had to turn it ( laptop) into best buy to get it cleaned. Thought it would be safest if i didnt even mess with the sampler untill i get the laptop straightened out because if i dl'd some wacky virus into the sampler i just got, id be angry beyond belief.
Being parinoid, non computer savy and playing ity safe SUXXX.

Of course, when these things happen there will always be crazy people predicting the end of the world or some such (and maybe trying to boost sales of their books):

I saw something weird on the way home from school this evening. I watched a jet, a big jet, make a U-turn. And no it was not a military jet. It was either a passenger or cargo jet. My eyes are great at a distance, but not THAT great. Anyways, bad things seem to happen when jets make U-turns. I hope this is not the case. I took a pic of the con-trail as soon as I got home, so yes it did in fact happen. The plane was traveling south and ended up heading in a NNE direction.

When extracting a drill bit from a collet, & it sticks, use gloves. If you don't, & you use really sharp professional wood bits, the flutes will take your flesh to the bone.

Andy's fingers 0 - drill bit 1 :(

I was driving home on an alternate route this evening and I saw a music store that I hadn't noticed before, a little place in a small strip of non-decript stores. I decided to stop in to have a look, and hey! I'm picking up a black Ludwig Acrolite tomorrow, in perfect condition, for $125 cash. Also, the guy who's selling me the snare drum also refinishes drum shells, and I've been searching the city for someone who can do that. And this is right in my neighborhood. Serendipitous, I'd call it.

That's not a contrail, contrails dissipate quite rapidly. it's a chem-trail.

If Mr. IP had time to watch it U-turn, drive home from school, run inside, grab his camera, run back outside to focus and take that shot, then that was definitely not a contrail. It was a Chem-trail for sure.

Haha! Those are leaves on my wife's lily's. I can totally see the lobster claw though.

I'm staying out of the whole chem-trail thing. All I am going to say is that if you watch a plane travel through a small cloud, where the moisture content and temperature is different, you will see these trails, and they stick around for a while, but vanish once the plane is past the cloud a ways. It was a somewhat cold day that day. That is as far into that as I am going.

I dunno, either way I find things like this entertaining. Sometimes I have conversations with my students about these sorts of things and much merriment ensues. Just forget about the nefarious plots and why people might want to do something like this and instead just look at the numbers.

Jets of these type are flying at 30,000 to 35,000 feet, typically. If they were to spray a chemical or biological agent out the back, the materials would take a very long time to reach the ground and be very widely dispersed, to the point where their concentrations would be miniscule. We're talking homeopathic sorts of dilutions. Of course, there's also the possibility that said chemical could literally be caught in the jet stream and not reach the ground until it's hundreds or even thousands of miles away. In any case, if you can come up with chemical agents that even at these tremendous dilutions are still effective, you can only imagine how strong they must be in the original (sprayed) form. What sort of protection would be required for the people loading these chemicals or even the people servicing the plane when it lands (I think we can guarantee that at least some of the spray is going to stick the plane)?

But the part that really makes me smile is that there is apparently a group of people that are smart enough to come up with these chemicals, have determined how to disperse them effectively in spite of the considerable challenges and have managed to control a huge nation-wide coverage-up. Yet, they can't seem to figure out a way to spray these chemicals without leaving huge markers in the sky that indicate they're doing so.
