Tonight there is supposed to be a repeat of that Beatles shows that CBS aired a few days ago.

Please, this is FYI only. No Beatles discussion. Please...

Unfortunately, I will be at practice and I have no DVR. Dang. :(

Bummer. See, this is exaclty the problem with Valentines day. It was the strict adherence to this utter commercial wank of a day that was your downfall mate. If you'd have forgone all thoughts of "doing something special for Valentines day" and bought it two days ago for no other reason that you love her and want to show it, you'd be smiling brightly....not to mention being a contender for the annual husband of the year award. It's evil I tells ya.

Me. I'm taking the missus out to dinner tomorrownight (it's Valenntines day here today). Just to prove the point that I don't need Hallmark to dictate my terms for me.......who knows, might even buy flowers too!! :-)

We had the annual conversation today about "Are we bothering with Valentine's Day?" I'd bought a card for Mr Madge but he hadn't for me. My master plan was that he'd be full of remorse and guilt that only the purchase of a Guru snare could assuage, but he evidently lacks a conscience. Oh well. I love him every day, not just on 14th February, and the fact that he hasn't throttled me yet, despite being sorely tempted on numerous occasions, would seem to indicate reciprocity.

About an hour ago I checked the date because I have a dermatologist appointment on Mon. I noticed it was Valentines Day. I think I'll pass this one to David Attenborough ...

... On the same day every year Homo sapiens does a most curious thing. Leading up to the 14th of February every year (and it doesn't matter whether it's winter in the northern hemisphere or summer in the south) a plethora of these clever naked apes start to accumulate vast amounts of additional resources to provide for their mate. Mountains of flowers and processed cocoa beans are harvested, ready for consumption, perhaps to provide additional energy stores before the species embarks on a frenzy of mating.

[whispers]Oooh, I think we can see a couple of them in action now through the clearing ... I need to be very quiet because this part of the ritual tends to be very private as opposed to the overt tumult in the group about the occasion. See how they touch and make soft vocalisations designed to boost dopamine and seretonin rates. This makes the female receptive to mating. Now you will now notice that the male attempts to m......

Has he asked Flanders and Swann?

My random thought/action for the day. Just subscribed to 'Private Eye'. I found an old copy in my bag at work today and spent about ten minutes in fits of laughter and tears...

No, but since you mention them, the thought of Mr Madge and "Ill Wind" seem to complement each other beautifully.

I was entering into some discussions re. Uganda to celebrate today. Unfortunately, we could not come to an agreement because she was tired and emotional...

A few years ago, I used to know all of the words to 'Ill Wind'. My Grandad used taught me the songs when I was very little.

Glad they're back on.

I take it that if the lack of water is a problem, it's because you've run out of wine?

Commiserations to soggy, boggy northern hemispherites.

As usual, things are opposite here. After a prolonged period of hot dry weather that's killed off large areas of my lawn it's finally rained the last few days - only lightly but it's better than nothing.Pity we can't control clouds so you could pass some of your excess water to Oz.

Something that just popped into my head: isn't it extremely ridiculous to such an extent that it is funny that Moby Dick is a sperm whale? Or is that just my adolescent mind giggling at the most random of things?

It's not just you.

As a kid, I was too embarrassed to say 'sperm whale' to my parents. How things have changed...

I'm thinking about playing my next dive bar gig with a beater kit and then thrashing it after the show. I know it has been done before, but it sounds like such fun.

Dubious. I think the last time I was able to get behind a kit was December...

Naturally, the bass guitars are driving the neighbours to distraction. I have to have some outlet! The second-rate whisky helps.

Why do clothes dryers have buzzers to let you know when they are finished and not washers? Why do refrigerators have lights but not the freezer compartment.?

Our clothes dryer doesn't have a buzzer but the washing machine does.

Freezers don't have lights because you only need really cold things during the day when it's light ... right? :)

The freezer part of my refrigerator has a light in it. It's a Frigidaire, with the refrigerator part on one side and the freezer part on the other. We got it second-hand for $200. I had to rent a Uhaul truck to move it to my house.

I had to take the door off to get the damn thing into my house.
