Default Hi

Hi all, allow me to introduce myself.

Real name: Adriaan
Age: 22
How long have you been playing: 8 years, I think
Origin of user name: My late goldfish was called Stella. She in turn was named after an Interpol song.
Your top 5 drummers: I don't know that many. But I absolutely love Bryan Devendorf's drumming. Other than that, I used to be a fan of Herr Benny Greb, but haven't seen anything of him or his work for years.
Make of drumkit: Beverley kit from the 70's.
Make of cymbal: Amedia and Paiste 3000.
Where do you practice: During band repetitions. At home on an improvised smaller electronic set up.
Are you in a band: I play in a post punk / new wave band called Stillwave (www.facebook.com/stillwavemusic)
Do you play covers or originals: Originals only
What style of music: press has used terms like post punk, shoegaze, new wave and post rock.
Favourite take out food: not a fan
What country do you live in: The Netherlands
One really odd fact about yourself: When I wake up and walk to the shower, I wear my clean boxershorts on my head. I have been doing that for four years now and it still feels like the right thing to do.
How did you start drumming: On a set of pans to practice for a recital in secondary school when I was 14.

Hallo!

My name is Daniel. Have been reading the threads here for a while, but now decided to register.

I“m 37 years and live with my family on an island just outside Stockholm.
Started playing drums when I was 7 years old. The last 10 years or so I have been playing only bass. But now I“m back at drumming.

Since I have sold all my drums I had to start over again last winter.

I started with this.

Then I got these.

And then I just traded the Sonors for these.

I also trade my Sonor snares, one 14x5 and a 12x5 plus an Iron Cobra powerglide for this snare.

Sorry for the bad pics of the Premier and Yammies. Better pics will come on the yammies. I just put them up in the kitchen quick. The 8" tom isn“t on the pics. That one is black and I got it as a bonus.

I also have Zildjian K 14" hihat, Zildjian A-Custom 21" 20th anniversery ride, Zildjian A-Custom 16" medium crash and a Meinl Soundcaster Custom 18" medium crash.

Right now I“m starting a pretty big funk/soul band. We will be around 10 people. Horns and everything.

Age: 23
How long have you been playing: 11 Years I think
Origin of user name: Derived from possibly drunken ramblings with my brother.
Your top 5 drummers:Theres always so much to learn from any drummer! But I'd have to put Buddy at the top.
Make of drumkit: Gretsch Catalina Club. 1960s emerald green Gretsch. 1970s blue oyster Luddy, and a 1980s Yamaha recording custom.
Make of cymbal: Zildjian
Where do you practice: Anywhere theres a table.
Are you in a band: I play for a local function band called Salty Hog, and Antimatter, who are signed to a german record label.
Do you play covers or originals: Salty Hog - both, Antimatter - originals.
What style of music: Antimatter have been described as 'Melancholic rock' and 'UK kings of all that is depressive'...you get the idea.
Favourite take out food: pizza
What country do you live in: Wales
One really odd fact about yourself: I wear white gloves when I'm handling my gear.
How did you start drumming: I always wanted to be able to play an instrument, but was terrible at everything I tried. I wasn't far off terrible when I first started drumming, but I enjoyed it so much more than the other instruments!

Origin of user name? I'm unsure to be honest, I do like the number 11 though.

Do you play covers or originals? Mostly covers.
What style of music? Mostly Progressive metal, Metalcore, and Punk/Pop Rock. I do listen to anything, and will try to play anything to have a variety of genre's under my belt.
Favourite take out food? I'd probably say Taco Bell, or generally some kind of Mexican food. (Chipotle, Cafe Rio)
What country do you live in? Started learning in the United Arab Emirates, moved back to the States in July.
One really odd fact about yourself? I'm odd, overall.

How did you start drumming? After moving to the United Arab Emirates, I was supposed to take up Piano again, but I didn't find it interesting; more of a forced instrument thing. Decided on drums instead, been playing ever since. My "teacher" wasn't too great of help, and I didn't stay with him for too long. Most of everything I've learned, I've done on my own.

Been meaning to join this forum for a long time, but life just keeps me busy.

Real name? Same as above

Age? 40

How long have you been playing? 33 years

Your top 5 drummers? Peart, Weckl, Hoglan, Donati, McBrain (man, there are so many. Those are the first that came to mind)

Make of drumkit?
I have 7 drum kits....
Slingerland (my very first at age 7)
Sonor Force 3000
Premier Cabria
Gretsch Catalina Ash
Mapex Saturn Pro
Roland TD10

and I actually still have the RIMS HEADSET. Anyone remember that? LOL
I actually want to sell it, so if there are any interested parties, let me know. I'm located in Dayton OH.

Make of cymbal? Paiste

Where do you practice? at home in my jam room / basement

Are you in a band? I literally play in 8 bands......2 of them being metal, 4 of them being tributes, 1 of them being a cover band, and 1 being a band with my brother, Michael Harris - playing his original instrumentals.

Do you play covers or originals? See above

What style of music? from jazz/fusion/funk to extreme metal

Favourite take out food? I avoid it, as I try to eat clean/healthy, but we have a place called Penn Station here that is killer. I can't help myself LOL

What country do you live in? USA

One really odd fact about yourself? Nothing odd that I can think of.......but I grew up listening to big band jazz from my dad, and his big band orchestra. But I'm a total metalhead.

How did you start drumming? Dad showed me a few licks. Older brother played too. Just a natural attraction.

Have around 20 albums that I played on, most known (to the metal heads) would be FIREWIND "Between Heaven & Hell" (this guitarist is now Ozzy's guitarist - Gus G is his name) and for those super hardcore metal lovers, SOLSTICE "To Dust". Interested in hearing some of it? It's all over YouTube. Do a search for those band names/album titles.

I'm sure like most of you, it's a never ending uphill battle trying to reach certain playing goals. Never a plateau!
Well that's all for now, I'll chime in on the "show us your kit" thread and other threads.

One really odd fact about yourself? Drumming worked really well for me as physio after a heart bypass operation.

How did you start drumming? Originally started playing back in the late 70's when punk hit (anyone could be in a band back then - no musical ability necessary!), but due to work & family commitments I gave up playing in the early 80's. Got back into it in 2010 when the old band decided to have a 33 year (?!) reunion gig. Got the bug for it again & now play in 2 bands.

Real name? Jonathan Friedman

Age? 16

Origin of username? My favorite band is the All-American Rejects, their abbreviation is AAR. I believe that they have the ability to win: AARwonable

Where do you practice? In a dorm room that my boarding school's administrators let me and my buddy use. Its so sick, its an entire bedroom just for us to practice in! Every gets mad at me because it's like 5:30 PM and they are trying to sleep.

What country? The great USA

Fun fact about me? Well, um... let's see here.... got to dig deep into this just a little... well, I want to be a lawyer... but that isn't a FUN fact, that's just a simple fact... I far--on the other hand, that's a little personal... well, my favorite video game commentator of all times is Jerma985.

What got me into drumming? When I was in 5th grade, I thought drums would help become more popular. So, my parents let me take a few lessons in 6th. It turned out that I love playing the drums, so I stuck to it.

Hey everyone, this is my first post here. Thought I would introduce myself and tell a little about me. I guess we follow this question format. I have been trying to drum for a little over 2 years way more off than on. I have had a few lessons, but still really stink.

Real name: Dustin

Age: 35

How long have you been playing: Like I said a lil over 2 years, but really only have played a handful of months between that time.

Origin of user name: I now have a PDP X7 orange sparkle kit, I love Sabian cymbals I own 6 and one in layaway.

Your top 5 drummers: I don't really know names, but I like the drummers from Fireflight, Disciple, As I lay dying, Joey Jordison, and the dude from Five Finger Death Punch. Most are Christian bands, but I branch out too. I really love some fast double pedal.

Make of drum kit: PDP X7 orange sparkle. For now her name is Marmalade. You know for orange marmalade. I know it might be cheesy to name a kit, but hey I am cheesy too.

Make of cymbal: Sabian AAX 15" and 18" crashes, 14" AAX high hats, 20" AA medium ride, 18" XS20 china, and 12" APX splash. Zildjian Zil-bel. 10" Wuhan splash (don't care for it. Bought because it was cheap)

Where do you practice: I have kit set-up in second bedroom which is office/ my wife's craft space/ my kit space. I have to only play during certain hours due to being in a condo. I want to be respectful. At least my next door neighbor has a small kit too, just very rarely plays it.

Are you in a band: I wish I was good enough. But, after a while I would love to be. I would also love to play on Worship team at my Church.

Do you play covers or originals: Neither yet. Still getting basics down.

What style of music: Christian rock, metal, and some contemporary Christian.

Favorite take out food: Wow! Tough one. I love Gyro's, but for the life of me I cannot find a good one even in a pretty large capitol city Columbus, Ohio. I will take suggestions from anyone near here.

What country do you live in: The USA.

Fun fact about yourself: I am actually a pretty funny person, and I recently lost 110lbs.

Gonna try to post some pics of my kit on here. The empty stand usually hold my china, but I let a buddy borrow it for a gig. Oh and the Tama bass drum head was a port or no port experiment. It will not stay that way, I feel it is just wrong. Don't judge...
[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

The Zil-bel is in a funny spot, but it is just holding the spot for my 16" AAX O-zone in layaway.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

I guess you could say this is my driver seat.

[IMG][/IMG]

Hope you like it and you got to know me a little.

Brand spanking new to this forum.

Real name? Doug

Age? 59

How long have you been playing? Off and on for 47 years

Origin of user name? Being older than dirt and having played a number of different kits over the years I've come full circle and realize the vintage drum makers had it right all along. No more trends for me.

Your top 5 drummers? Russ Kunkel, Matt Chamberlain, Jim Keltner, Stevie DiStanislao, Neil Peart (lots more respect and love for a much longer list of drummers than these five)

Make of drumkit? Rescued many of the last Yamaha Recording Custom shells in Antique Sunburst from the Japanese factory before the series was discontinued

Make of cymbal? Switched to nearly all Istanbul Agops with a few vintage Sabians, two 80's Wuhan Chinese cymbals and a new Bosphorus 18" 18-hole crash

Where do you practice? Private rehearsal studio

Are you in a band? Not at this time, but will start filling in for worship at my church

Do you play covers or originals? Mostly covers

What style of music? Wide variety of musical tastes

Favorite take out food? Jimboy's Beef Tacos and Blue Coast Burritos Fish Tacos

What country do you live in? USA

One really odd fact about yourself? My dad's side of the family are direct descendants from the Vikings: pillage and plunder sort of stuff

How did you start drumming? I watched the Beatles perform live on the Ed Sullivan show when I was 9 years old. Watching Ringo having fun rocking it out, I knew instantly I had to play the drums.

Real name?

Jimmy

Age?

34

How long have you been playing?

18 years but with a 6 year gap.

Your top 5 drummers?

Gotta be Buddy Rich, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Nick Mason and Chad Smith.

Make of drumkit?

I have a Mapex V series but I'm looking to upgrade to a Ludwig kit soon and get a Roland Electronic kit for practicing in the house.

Make of cymbal?

Sabian Pro Sonics, a dark Stagg crash cymbal.

Where do you practice?

I practice my rudiments on a pad, the only time I get to play on a kit at the present moment is in rehearsal studios, can't play the Mapex in the house.

Are you in a band?

Not presently but I used to be in a blues covers band and a heavy rock band that did Sabbathy stuff. Love Sabbath but that's the heaviest stuff that I'm into - the band wanted to be more like Pantera so I left.

Do you play covers or originals?

I can play mainly blues covers. Really enjoy playing Floyd stuff. I like playing original stuff with bands too.

What style of music?

Heavy R&B drummer. Also like a mixture of funk.

Favourite take out food?

Like authentic indian curries with lentils and vegetables.

What country do you live in?

Scotland.

One really odd fact about yourself?

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Screenwriting.

How did you start drumming?

My dad was a huge fan of Frank Sinatra and on one of the videos Buddy Rich joined Frank Sinatra. From then on I knew I wanted to play the drums, it further developed with music lessons at school, then I discovered The Who and Keith Moon.

Pleasure to be on the forum.
