In London now ... thrilled to be able to understand signage and conversation - not to mention being able to make a cup of tea in the hotel room! Could almost imagine I'm back in Oz except everything's more elegant and the weather is wintry.

Yay - welcome! London is the most fantastic city I've ever been to, it's the whole world in a series of villages. I hope you enjoy it!

It's very odd to think that you are only twenty miles from me...

EDIT: Just did an absolute monster of a day at work. Why now? When I want the time to pass easily before my annual leave?!

The two single longest days we are ever confronted with? The day before you take annual leave..........and the first day back.

I had an interesting morning. Couldn't sleep so I went to the local gas station at about 4:00am to get a cup of coffee. There was a guy there who was also getting a cup of coffee. We got outside and he mentioned something about drums because he saw my drums in my car. Next thing you know, we are having a full on discussion about drums. It turns out, that this guy, Don, used to hang out with Jeff Porcaro and Toto and he was even close with Buddy Rich. He even claims to play just like Buddy. I'll have to see this for myself. So we sit there in the parking lot talking for like 3 hours about his experiences and growing up with Buddy and Jeff around. This guy heard my stuff too and he thinks he can teach me a few things, and he said that he won't bother with just any drummer. He also said he will charge me $100 for a couple hours. He's had some bad luck this year and can use the money, but I'm not allowed to call him until I learn the albums Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs and Toto's Past and Present album. The band Boz Scaggs used on that album was Toto before they became Toto. He also talked a lot about Buddy Rich and Joe Porcaro, the Porcaro brothers' father, who founded the LA Music Academy College of Music. After awhile I gave him a ride to where he was going a short distance away, he gave me his number, and now I have a teacher I can call when I'm ready to go. I get the feeling he is the real deal. He played some impressive stuff on my dashboard with just his hands. We'll see how it goes.

I just heard one of the cymbal rolls I recorded for CNN.

I guess Herb decided to go back to his archives for some shutdown effects.

Just back from the eye hospital after taking a hardwood splinter at full tilt. Having your eyelids peeled back & eye compressed to remove said offending item really sucks. Now very sore - generally pissed off, & feels like my eye is bathed in grit :( Lack of sleep tonight is anticipated.

Did they at least put novocaine drops in your eye? The drops suck, as a numb eye feels about 100 times too big, but it does kill pain.

Yikes! Scary stuff, Andy. Hope you're feeling better now. Have to say that one of the great things about wearing glasses is automatic eye protection.

Got home from hols hoping to walk into a newly renovated bathroom. Instead walked into a small capital works zone. Feels a bit like going to another hotel - only with decent internet.

Major bushfires in Sydney. On the flight home you could see Sydney shrouded in smoke ... reminded me of when we passed over major Chinese cities on the way over. One dead, over 100 homes destroyed, with more to come when the temps get high again later on the weekend and early next week. If this is springtime it makes you wonder about summer ...

Oh geez. Ouch.

Sounds like a stiff drink is in order. I'll be sure to pour one when I got off of work.

Thanks for your kind thoughts guys. Must admit, I dodged a bullet there :) Feeling so damn painful now though. Almost no sight in my right eye, but that's due to swelling. The hospital said it would feel fine in a week or so. Great - I have a big gig on Sunday, & the studio next week, so my distance perspective may be a bit off. Getting those ride bell accents clean might be a sticky one. Guess I'll have to keep it simple ;) ;) ;)

It was a piss poor attempt at humour really. But I was in dire need of an eye-patch/music correlation and that was the only thing I could think of.

Trust me, I'm perfectly capable of seeing two breasts with only one eye ;) Given the weather forecast for Sunday though, I think any such treats are highly unlikely. That said, anyone brave enough to take such a step, would really stand out ;)

I had an exhausting weekend... lifting and moving furnitures for the in-law from Lancaster to Telford (UK) loading and un-loading the Luton Transit (thanks to the tail lift!) and driving some 780 miles (3 trips), I just come back 20 minutes ago, totally shattered, physically... phew, glad is over, every part of my body hurts :(

Thanks guys :)

I wasn't able to rest at all, just a few hours sleep and back at work straight away.

Well the job is only half done... I still have to go back to France in a Luton Transit and do the very same thing all over again... not looking forward to it, but it has to be done.

See Grea, I'm keeping it up :)

The good thing is that I'll have my old computer with all my drawing software within the UK, so I'll be able to resume uploading my annoying cartoons all over the forum, you've been warned!!! :-)

I was just recently checking out a show about the rise of robotics. Never mind little robotic birdie buddies, people will marry robots. More conventionally usefully, they will be used in dealing with environments too dangerous for people, eg. post nuclear accident cleanup.

It's not even Christmas yet! Families tend to draw us back to the old dynamics. It can be spookily difficult to resist falling back into that rut. And not much to do if you have someone hell bent on picking fights.

Definitely not Moe. The PP product I'd describe as an indicator of the future. The PP hybrid is the one you'd need to deal with - the beast is a crime against God and nature!

Well, maybe I am, but I'm certainly not a parrot!

Actually I'm a bit sad and weepy at the moment - my former neighbour's cat had to be put down this afternoon. I wondered why it affected me given that I've not had much to do with him in the last couple of years, and it's not that I believe there is any suffering in death, only dying.

I think I regret the loss of his personality - he was a clever, quirky and cheeky cat and pretty cute - like a black Garfield. That's gone now. Even when people don't interact, we still value other peoples' presence, including feline people.

Vale Lenny the cat.

Band practice is on soon - just what the doctor ordered to cheer me up. With luck my evil plan will have worked ... I'm lobbying for us do a small band version of Pat Boone's Smoke on the Water cover :)
