Haven't seen Uniongoon in a little while. Haven't seen Steamer and Delta in even longer. Robert posted in a thread just the other day, he's still here. And Jay is alive, well and posting regularly.......he's probably just busy with that airport!! :-)

Jay Norem no longer posts under that name.

This is my last weekend with my "baby" before she goes to uni in Singapore - and I've already managed to piss her off :/

Oh well, eh.

A bit sad, if I'm honest.

Often seems to happen, though, doesn't it? I think the stress, even if they are happy about it, makes everyone edgy.

Don't worry too much about it. She may be your baby, & always will be, but of course, she's not. Once in Singapore, although it's a fantastic place (one of my favourite cities), her thoughts will soon turn to home, & the good stuff always prevails when distances are involved.

My son moved out a few weeks ago, & my daughter moves out in 10 days time. Real empty nest syndrome stuff. Not sure how I'm going to work through it, but work through it I will. In moments when I miss them, of course, I'm thinking of how I feel, not how they feel. I'm sure I'll get over myself.

If we do it right, we attach wings to them, & encourage them to fly. Once that's achieved, all we can do is be there when inevitably the shit hits the fan.

I think you're right about that - I hope so anyway; I don't even know what exactly I did! Anyway, today's another day.

Two things:

1. Stop it, stop it, stop it, STOP IT!!

2. Today was the first time in years that I've felt excited about riding my horse. He was a bit stroppy because I made him do stuff he thought was difficult, but once he realised it was non-negotiable he discovered that he could do it after all, and then he felt clever, which he is, and as a result his confidence skyrocketed and he was an absolute delight.

Just the same as learning something new on the kit, or indeed, stepping out on stage for the first time :)

BTW, stop what?

Except I don't do stroppy. Oh wait ...

Stop encouraging somebody to carry on being an irritating little person.

I'm having my first ever jam session tonight. Avec real live people. G-gulp.

Superb!

You'll fill the room with awesome.

My first jam session happened about 6 weeks into my drumming journey. I say "journey", as it's now only around 8 months in, "flit" may be a better term. For pretty much every song that was suggested, I'd stop, look deeply thoughtful....and then play the money beat.

Looking forward to the report back.

Bless you - but as long as I don't fill it with awful, I'll be happy.

Good tip there - thanks!

Off to Singapore at sparrow's fart tomorrow. Have kissed all cats and horses goodbye - oh and the dog.

Found a drum shop there though :D

I don't like the weird drum intro on QOTSA's "song for the dead". It sounds awkward and not musical to me. I understand that it's supposed to be "off kilter", but I don't like it.

The other night, I did something similar just to see what would happen. Everyone went ape, so I guess it's just me.

It is a bit strange, but I like the tension it creates. Like watching two drunk girls about to fight, spewing random nonsense at each other in no particular direction, then one of them falls down.

Leave him alone.

There!

In other news, I'm listening to an indifferent duo wearing frilly sleeves and playing a Bontempi organ. Wonderful!

Good grief, Watso, that QOTSA song just about pinned me to the chair! I didn't mind the intro - he's just rocking out.

How'd the jam go, Madge?

I requested Blue Moon from the indifferent frilly-sleeved Bontempi duo, but they didn't know it :(

Mini-Madge is enjoying Induction Week and will probably go completely native within days. She's the only Brit in the whole uni, and the only European on her course. She couldn't be happier, and consequently neither could I. Her only regret is that she didn't keep the beautiful kingfisher blue hair, and dyed it a horrid shade of boring before she came. She really should have listened to Mummy.

As well as can be expected when I'm nowhere near my drums ... I have found a shop though!

We still need a guitarist. A desperate one, evidently!

Andy's suffering from major empty nest syndrome today. We're just helping pack our daughter's stuff. She leaves for her new life in the next hour or so, & our son moved out a few weeks ago. Our kids are doing just fine. It's what every parent strives towards, but that doesn't make it an easy transition :(

No, they're both within 3 - 4 hours drive, so not totally detached. We'll still see them every so often, but it's the feel of the home that changes so utterly, & not in a good way IMO.

No way - two Welsh terriers is enough! BTW, at the risk of you hating me, I'm on Mr. Madge's side ;)
