Default Sabian AAXplosion old logo

Is it just me or do the old logo AAXplosions sound different than the new ones. I'm sure they made a change to them when the logo changed. I have owned both and think the old ones sound way better. It maybe just me lol.

As far as I remember, I think that the old Xplosions were thinner, but for some reason, they were stiffer ( less flex ). Some people found that they would crack easily, so now they're made a bit thicker and go through the normal finishing process. I believe the new ones are medium thin.

Think you may be right. I don't like the modern ones at all so opted for HHXplosions.

Cymbals also age so the way they sound may be due to age too.

Just chiming in here with another confirmation that the new AAX-Plosions are different cymbals and sound nothing like the original models.

In my own experience what Terrence R pointed out is definitely the case - the older ones were thinner/stiffer and unfortunately prone to cracking, especially around the bottom of the bell where the lathing begins. I saw many cracked AAX-Plosions crashes shortly after they first came out. At some point Sabian changed the design, went for thicker cymbals that are more durable.

Sonically however there is no comparison, the old AAX-Plosions sound fantastic, smooth, balanced and modern in the best kind of way. The new ones sound terrible, gongy and harsh.

This is just one man's opinion of course.
