I was in a band that one of the guys wanted to call it "Jalopy". In fact he gave that name to the first place we gigged at. He was punished severely.

Sneaky, very sneaky.

There was a high school band called Flaming Homos.

I did a little Jazz performance and someone suggested, Prisoners of Jazzcaban and Dolphin Cruise Ship. I suggested Seahorses Forever and that became our name

There's another one called The Boring Daylights.

I've always been a fan of 'Areola 51' for a cool band name. :-)

Henri, that's just wrong on so many levels. Why don't you just call yourselves The Leftovers? Haha...jk

My current cover band is called Living Dead, and I'm sure the name is already taken, but we're just playing backyard parties, so no big deal.

My cover band before that was called The Wannabees. And that's all we were...

I was in a band called Zero Limit back in the early 2000's (fishing reference). I went to post some of the music in 2009 and the name was already taken on MySpace, so I called the band Shibby Skanks and the Barneys. It's still there on MySpace.

I had a chance once to audition for a band called Poop. They actually toured and stuff. But I didn't want to be in a band called Poop.

The band I'm joining has a name I really don't like but they've had it for 3 years so not much I can do about it.....Lip Gloss!

All girl band you see and the said they were looking for something feminine but not slutty when they came up with it. Personally I think it's a little too feminine but again, I'm the noob so I can't say much. Whatchya gonna do? :)

Well, there are a few other feminine products they could have thought of that would be worse than being called Lip Gloss...

One of the bands I'm in just changed it's name from Groove Unit (meh) to Blue Stuka. We're a power trio playing a variety of covers like QOTSA, Foo's, Black Sabbath etc, with some originals. Hence the reference to a German WWII dive bomber.
They rejected the name I put forward though, Boegan Rooter, and I can't imagine why. Could be an Aussie thing.

They may reject the name, but betcha they don't reject the concept. It seems to have been the sole motivation of many a cover band member I've played with over the years. :-)

Yeah, I was devvo'd. I was even willing to change out the double 'o' to a 'u' with an umlaut over it like in motley crue to make it more German looking but they still wouldn't have it. (I thought it fit the bass player to a T). They laughed their butts off and then rejected one of my most inspired moments. There is no accounting for taste, none at all.

Big Dick and the Extenders. The singers name was Richard and he was kind of a big guy. I guess it fit. :)

I was always fond of a local band that went by the name of 'Rage Against the Latrine'. Guessed who they were the tribute for.

Local band "Touching cloth" always raises a smile with me. Probably not good for getting gigs though.

"Half man, half biscuit" always intrigued me too, until I met the lead singer, & all became crystal clear :)

I was in a band called "the English Biddys" I effing hated that name. It would have been a great name for an all girl folk or roots band, but we played mostly covers from the 60's and 70's, and there was only one girl in the band, the singer and no way would she entertain changing the name. I still cringe and hesitate to answer when people ask "hey, I heard you used to play in a band, what was the name"?. When I answer their response is always the same, a sort of bewildered "What"?

Did I mention I hated that name?

I always got a kick out of the name Chuck E. Weiss & The Goddamn Liars, the somewhat legendary, long time LA club band. They played every Monday night for something like 12 years at The Central in Hollywood, which later became Viper Room (and unfortunately became known as the place River Phoenix died). I saw the Goddamn Liars a few times and they were so much fun and funny while kicking ass musically in a variety of styles.

I miss those days, when going out to see a cover band was like a mini concert event because there were so many good ones. For a good time it's hard to beat an eighties cover band but i guess that's me being stuck in
the past. Now it only happens when we go to Vegas and happen to catch "rock of Vegas" or "arena" on Fremont street, always a great time.

A friend of mine and I are in the process of putting together a band whose primary conceit is that we are all playing instruments that are not our primary instrument. He suggested the band name "Second String", and when I told him that was fairly catchy, he said, "Yeah, well the other name I thought of was 'Sloppy Seconds'". We mutually agreed we wouldn't be using that name!

One of the bands we used to have was called FLESH KEEPER. The first "record" was called Keeper Of Your Flesh. I always thought that was pretty amusing.

I must have "played" in over two dozen bands growing up, making up band names and designin / drawing the covers for cassettes was some of the most fun you could have.

Some of my other favourites included "The Pepe Flowers", "The Ultimate Pato Boys", and "The Porn Career Of M. Nykänen".

Mind you, all of those cassettes actually had some sort of musical extravaganza recorded on them. Good ole times!

My buddy told me of a band in Cleveland, OH called "Jehovah's Waitresses."

He'd like to name his band "Eddy Current and the Ohm Boys" - you'd never guess that he worked in electronics for the last 30 years.

I always wanted to use "The Grin 'n Dig It, Gittin' With It, Hoochy, Coochy, Rhythm Band" but I couldn't get it to fit on the drum head.
