Jon, those are beauties. Is that the original Psychedelic Red wrap?
You have an enviable collection. It's gotten to the point where pictures of Ludwig sets don't look right to me unless they're photographed in front of a swimming pool :) |

It's original, and stunning in person. Original heads top & bottom too, but a little sad about the port hole. :( They still have that old Ludwig smell inside, it's a serious time capsule kit. The only one I've seen that's nicer is Bun E's, and his is NOS and unplayed.
I've never been a big fan of the finish, but because they're so well-preserved, I couldn't pass them up. Bermuda |

Lovely. I thnk Ludwig still offers a pretty similar wrap recently on their Element SE line, which I think is now their Club Date / Jazzette.

here is a 1967 Ludwig I had some years ago.
just came across this picture last night ....it was taken in the early 90s when I did a small clinic at my nephews school....in the library it was stamped Nov.27 '67 inside the kick drum she was a beauty ...I sold her back to Stan and Jerry over at Pro Drum Shop in LA when I was moving back east along with my Burgundy sparkle 67 Luddy. looking for a pic of the Burgundy....she was gorgeous as well not sure what the cymbal situation was I had going on the right side of the kit .....looks awful to me now.......I was a young man :)

I just set up my Ludwigs after moving from Alabama to Alaska and being without any of my stuff for over 3 months. This is how they look in my shop/studio. I just set up the mics this evening and adjusted all of the gain in my interface. I am ready to go!!!
The drums are 1977-79 B/O badge (13/16/18/22, also have a 12/14 I do not play). The snare on the kit is a 6.5" x 14" Supraphonic (2009). I also have a 5" x 14" Supra (1971). Both Supras are outfit with the Millennium strainer and die cast hoops. |

Sweeeeeet!!
And in my preferred sizes too. Although I'd go for red sparkle.....or silver sparkle....or WMP.....just so no-one confuses us. Really like the kit mate. Kick looks deep, 24x18?

That kick is 16". I was originally thinking 14", but I went with 16" and don't regret it. I'd actually like to have 1 or 2 more matching bass drums to swap out for variety (14x22, 14x26.) But that's REALLY overkill for me. :) |

Yeah, in the course of my dreaming about my very own CM, I keep tossing up on 14" or 16" deep too. All I have to do is decide on that, the colour (which flips between the three I mentioned every couple of weeks), not to mention scrape together the 5 or 6 thousand Aussie dollars I need to get my hands on one......and a set of Luddies in those exact sizes will be on its way Downunder. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy yours.....make sure you do too!! Congrats, they are beautiful.

A few months back, I was wanting this exact kit in this color with these sizes, except a 14" deep bass drum. However, I saw this green glitter kit on eBay brand spanking new with a serious price reduction for being a 'floor demo' with zero signs of use. I figured I'd suck up getting the exact bass drum depth to save all kinds of money. I could always get it cut down. I paid probably $800 less than most places for this kit, so it was worth it! However, now I don't feel the need to cut it down at all. The response from the bass drum is fantastic. I hope that doesn't change much if I decide to put a port hole in the bass reso head! PS - Also, I don't have the patience to order a kit and wait months for it to be made. That's not unreasonable, but I just want things now. lol |

Put new Remo Black Dot CS heads on the kit today. Put one on the front of the bass drum with a chrome Holz in the center. I think it looks pretty sharp and not sure if it has been done before. Got inspiraction from Ronnie Vannucci's kit, but he just cuts a hole in his.

Some very nice drums in here!
Here's my old set of Vistalites, they are from the late 70s judging by the serial numbers. I've been working on 'em for a few weeks now, just finished re-cutting the bearing edges on all of the shells yesterday. 22"x13", 13"x9", 16"x16" with an Acrolite snare, blue & olive badge. According to the serial number I'd say it's most likely early 80s Bass drum doesn't have the front hoop attached at the moment since I don't have the claws for it yet. |

There is no way that you can own a Ludwig kit and not love it!
I thought about this statement for a while before I posted it. I concluded that it is true based on my personal experience.

Congrats!

Sorry - I forgot to post my kit here too ;)
Ludwig Classic maples 6-ply with 6.5x14 Supraphonic - all built between 1978-80 (not really sure of exactly when, but these were either late 70s or early 80s) 16x26 9x13 16x16 16x18 This is the first time I've been using the 26" bass drum exclusively for everything lately and it's been working out really well. I can dance on it and get enough sound, and when I slam it, it can shake the stage ;) Love it! |

On the job with my latest, a Club Date Jazzette kit (18/12/14 & 5x14 snare) in Olive Sparkle, which is more like an Emerald Glass Glitter in person, very classy.
