Default Remo Emperor Snare Underside

Should I buy this for a resonant head? It's not clear weather it's a batter or resonant head. What's a good Remo alternative?

Default Re: Remo Emperor Snare Underside

Any head marked "snare side" or "hazy" is designed to be used as a snare reso. Remo make 3 heads that are specifically desgined for the purpose......the Diplomat snare side (2mils), the Ambassador snare side (3mils) and the Emperor snare side (5mils). They are not to be confused with regular Diplotmats, Ambassadors or Emperors which can all be used as a batter or tom tom reso....too thick for a snare reso. Although an standard Emp as a reso is very uncommon.

At 5 mils the Emperor snare side is the thickest of the snare side heads. Less common than the Ambassador snare side which is 3 mils and pretty much what you'd find on "most" snare drums. A good starting point and pretty much industry standard is a 3 mil snare reso. I'd recommend an Ambassador unless you are looking for a specific sound.
