Default LP Mic Claw or regular boom stand for kick?

Hello, all.
Just curious about the LP Mic Claws.
I've seen a few drummers use them live. Does anyone on here use them for micing their kick drum up? If so are they worth getting? Basically, I need a new stand to use for my kick mic when I'm recording demos. But the claw maybe more practical, I could use it live as well as in my practice space.
But like I said. Are they worth getting? Do they mark the hoop at all? Sturdy? Or do they just fall off? Would it be easier if I were to get a short boom stand instead?
Any info would be great, cheers! :)

I would definitely go with a short boom stand and not mount a microphone directly to the hoop. The more isolation between the microphone and the bass drum hoop, the better. As a matter of fact, I keep all my microphones isolated from the kit and I also use "shock" mounts.

For using on the bass drum, the most sturdy way in clamping it does mar the hoop, and you can get unwanted noise from vibration. It's actually easier just using a small stand.

LP claws work great other than that.
I still have and use my original Claws from the 80's.

We use the mic claw in several studios and live on the kick without any problem, it might a bigger concern whether it will damage the hoop. A good LP claw with all its rubbers won't.

Personally I just don't like the look of it when playing live/don't like the hassle of setting up. So regarding my kick, the mic is build in with a closed front head.

...I'm using the same stand.............I would recommend it just for the isolation.

Can't see it too well, but it's there if you look hard
