Today's thought isn't random - I hate renovations. I feel like I'm camping - crap and building refuse everywhere. If I had any character I'd clean it up, ready for painting.

Yeah, what happened to Luke? Snapped up by a touring band?
I agree, we're missing Luke.

And a few others.

England 340-5, following on. Lead by ten on the last day of the first test against India. Cook and Prior batting to save the match and force a draw.

Absolutely.Bricking.It.

EDIT: Prior out for 91. Bresnan in. It's times like this I consider praying despite my religious views...

I guess the music industry has finally hit rock bottom. Justin Beiber has been picked
the entertainer of the year. I apologise to all of the true
musicians slighted by the teeny bopper vote.

Billy Joel's "The Entertainer" is in my head. Justin's "staying on the charts" ... but that's about where his talent ends. I think he is really a she though. So feminine. Taking female hormones? Who knows...

That's possible. Some people used to think that about Wayne Newton and Tiny Tim.It's all about image really. The long hair in the 60's kicked off the whole androgynous boy/girl thing. Its seems teen and pre teen females have no problem with identifing with that whole thing,as well as the "not too much to think about" meaningless lyrics.

And that's his target audience. The're the ones buying his music, and going to his concerts. The music industry encourages this mindless sound alike music,by giving out awards in testimony to this lowest common denominator approach to making a buck.

I just happen to believe that that crap really isn't music.I don't know what you'd call it,but it certainly dosen't tick any of my boxes. :(

I'm watching the Who at the Isle of Wight, a classic if their is one. It's amazing, it's so rock, baby! The Who at their most powerful and tight. Keith Moon is a drum god.

I'm so glad I was born when I was.

That was my thought too - that show was part of my childhood, along with Bewitched, Addams Family Munsters, Gilligan's Island, Dobie Gillis ...

I watched that a couple of weeks ago. I'm always mesmerized by Moon. His playing is just so organic, he becomes a part of the kit. There's no one else like him. The rest of the band ain't to shabby either!

What could be better than looking through a stack of used but good condition drum heads and finding a brand new Evans HD Dry head. Woohoo. Put in on my Steambent maple 7.5 x 14. Killer.

lol - love it. Used to play that song with an old band.

This is less a random thought than random happening. Taking the dog for a walk in a park bordering bushland and the dog started getting tetchy. Suddenly this big brush turkey started running at me. I had an umbrella and put that out as a barrier ... the damn thing kept looking for opportunities to attack and I had to toss a couple of stones in its direction to deter it.

Then the dog got cranky and chased the bird around and I'm trying to call her off because they're a protected species. Later on we saw another one - just in a regular suburban garden.

Did some Googling and found a brush turkey video with a stunning drum-based background track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keH-Y_HlkGI

Offered to and then took my friend to hospital yesterday after one of her friends drank anti-freeze in another suicide attempt. Apparently she has acute kidney failure and this is the fifth time in eighteen months she's done this.

What a total waste of a life.

Jonny Greenwood's soundtrack to 'The Master' is another brilliant piece of work. Not as good as his soundtrack to 'There Will Be Blood' (my favourite film of the last twenty years and only beaten by 'Blade Runner' for the last thirty) but the score is excellent.

I haven't seen the film but I feel like I ought to.

Started my new job a few weeks ago. Schedule is so much more tolerable than my last one and the pay is much better. Came home nice and early today and made a tasty chili for dinner. I also have a snare project that I'll soon be able to wrap up and I do believe I want to attempt a champagne glitter finish using glitter and an epoxy.

Also I'm planning a trip to Mexico City next month. I do believe a splendid time will be had by all.

Lastly, after extensive love given to my 70's era Acrolite I have come to the conclusion that I just don't like the sound of shallow drums.

Fantastic, Duncan! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0Col9wnE_E

Listening to "Blood" now. Heavy stuff. Yeah, the Bladerunner score was a corker.

I don't know if it's a soundtrack but it should be - Robert Fripp's The Outer Darkness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egAzB-jusQ4

I just went outside (it's 2.15AM) and the Moon was so bright that the sky was not black or very dark blue but distinctly blue. So bright, that a passing airliner was leaving a visible vapour trail that I could see from the moonlight. I've never seen anything like it.

That Fripp reminds me a lot of a slightly more manic (and modern electronic) update of a lot of Ligeti's work. The sequence in '2001: A Space Odyssey' when Dave Bowman is in the star-gate uses Ligeti. A fantastic composer.

I'll probably watch '2001' tomorrow. If I get impatient I might just go and pick it off the shelf in minute...

Might be a little more peaceful than my night-time music of 'Metal Machine Music' last night. I managed to listen to the whole thing, save the last six minutes. Must do better next time.

Vapour trails are just that. 30,000 feet up and water vapour.

I live in the middle of a large town dominated locally by London.

Teasing.

Conspiracy theories are funny.

You must be over an hour away from London. Hard to see the stars too closely to city limits.

I can see Betelguese as distinctly red, the Pleiades quite clearly and the other night I resolved the Galilean Moons of Jupiter through a small telescope.

I'm less than an hour from London. I just know what I'm doing.

I've been listening to 'Agharta' this evening. It's a live album recorded in Japan on February 1, 1975, with one hell of a good band, and it's the last thing that Miles Davis recorded before he went into his hermitage.

The only thing I can find wrong with it is that I'm not the drummer. Man, I could eat this music with my soul on my drums, I was born to play music like this.

Al Foster does a very good job, though, I've got to give him that.

One of the best recordings of Miles Davis' musical vision ever made. It's goddam beautiful. How did he do that, how did he get a band to speak like that?

This music made in 1975 sounds like it was recorded this week. It grooves, it's a bastard, it's genius, man. Miles Davis.

Agharta and Pangaea both are works of art. That was a ridiculously underrated period in Miles' playing. People thought he was crazy or sick or something (and I guess he kind of was at that point in his life), but his trumpet playing was as inventive as it ever was and the band was just incredible.
