Default Video: drum heads test. Different brands, 1 ply, 2 ply, clear, coated, dot: does it really matter?

For a while I had in mind to do a soundtest of a lot of drumheads, different brands and different types.
I did it today, here is the video: http://youtu.be/Cd4lnB_Abik?hd=1

So what's your conclusion after this test?

That head choice isn't a choice between brands, the Emperors and Evans g2 for instance were very much identical, but there are of course obvious differences comparing 1 ply / 2 ply / 2 ply with internal muffling etc.

I noticed that with the G1 you can hear the note sustaining and decaying "naturally". Compare that to the EC reso, you can identify the very sound of the overtones being cut, the drop from the high frequencies to the lower frequencies is much shorter in duration making the drum sound dull and weird imo. The fundamental note is a bit higher with the EC reso, were the heads tuned to the same note all the time?

I think I prefer a head like the G1 for resonant heads as well. You can always muffle the batter a bit if you like but not make a dead sounding head more alive.

The aim was to have the fundamental note of the tom tuned about the same every time. I did have to tune the EC resonant head differently than the G1 for that.
