I'd like to ask David Bowie what he requires from a drummer, Yes...David specifically.

I've killed about five funnel web spiders in the last few days, nesting one metre from my back door. I suspect there are others a bit higher up on an awning where I can't spray them.

Still haven't gotten around to hitting the wasp nest near my front door - maybe tonight.

I once asked him the same thing. He told me his only requirement is that you nail the ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.

Yikes... Those spiders look nasty. Are they all outside still at this point?

Had my share of struggles with bees / wasps this past June - August. Had to call a service to come spray our entire house. It was just unbearable to be outside.

Thankfully outside the house. I'm tolerant of webs outside to keep insects down and attract birds but funnel webs so close to home is a dealbreaker. I think they'd been there for a while - I always thought they were mostly found nesting in the ground and it was just a glimpse of one today that made me wonder.

I feel guilty in a way because they'd obviously existed peacefully in that spot for some time but they're just too dangerous to have hanging around. I just blasted the wasps this evening.

I'm the most dangerous animal in this joint and I don't like competition mwuhahaha

Having a couple of pints before I go out as an inverted Droog from 'A Clockwork Orange' for my mate's 30th. Bring on the pole dancers! I kid not.

You guys do have some seriously dangerous animals down under.I'm an outdoors guy and believe in live and let live.....but not in my house.I pay good money to live here confortably...so no wild lower life forms are welcome nor tolerated.

I love animals, but tend to only allow the domesticated types into my abobe

Don't feel too guilty about the spiders and wasps. You're much safer and better off without them Pol.We were never meant to co-exist anyway.

An "inverted" droog? An upside down thug?

So they say, though we're mostly protected by urbanisation, medicine and technology. Not like in parts of Africa where a lot more people are killed by animals.

Not just guilty, Steve, but wondering if it's plain old bad tactics. Wasps and spiders eat insect pests - that's their main diet. So if I was wasn't such a risk averse lily-livered pea-hearted-yet-savage white western female I might have let the little animals have their space as they caught flies, mozzies and moths hanging around the house entrances.

I'm thinking next time I'll leave them. Come to think of it they'd tended to stay put and hadn't yet embarked on expansionary exercises - definitely have my limits there.

Bugger. Instant jealousy :)

At the totally opposite end of the scale, went out to a rock music party last night, & spent most of it watching a drummer who's considerably better than me (I know him well) & talking crap + Leslie cabs with Verden Allen (keyboards for the legendary "Mott the Hoople")

For those of you who are either not a Brit, or under 40, here's Mott the Hoople back in the day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfwVfEXJhQQ Weird that we're putting together a version of this song (penned by Bowie), & I end up chewing crap with the original performer :)

Almost forgot, driving 3 hours to pick up a puppy today :)

Andy! Another Puppy?! How will Yogi cope?!

That's great news!

As for me. I'm in recovery mode. The pole-dancers were friends of the hostess so they were totally fine when an inebriated Duncan walked too close to the pole and got a gin and tonic knocked out of his hands.

Then having to pick the birthday boy up and escorting him home...

Good times.

Mott the Hoople were actually pretty well known in the states,at least on both coasts, except in the deep south where it was Allman Brothers, the Dead, Charlie Daniels or Marshal Tucker...ye ha.Sorry.

Been a Ian Hunter and Mick Ralphs fan ever since.

Pics of the pooch.I've been thinking of getting another of mans best friend lately.I lost my Sable German Shepard (actually imported from Germany) a couple of years ago.She had liver failure and I had to put her to sleep.

I've kind of been on the mend over that ...we'll see.

Sorry Steve, I didn't realise MtH had a significant US following. Great band eh :)

Sorry also to hear of your struggle with 4 legged companion grief. I'm terrible when it comes to my animals - truly, it screws me up big time. I'm still not over the demise of my mixed terrier, Scamp. She died 8 years ago, aged 21!!!!!!!

I'll see if I can get a picture up :)

The Giants win the series with a four-game sweep; some of the best baseball I think I've ever seen. Romo is a m@#$%^&*()r. What a team. Congratulations San Francisco.

No more baseball until April. Winter's here I guess.

Congrats to the Giants and their fans. They were the better team this series, no question about it.

Terrible bummer that we don't have NHL hockey. This time of year is just absurd without it. Hope we get it soon.

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but being a native of San Francisco, as kid I used to listen to the Giants on the radio all the time as a kid.

I never ever though I would see a sweep in the world series with the Giants being on the winning end.

So I am very happy right now.

Not sure if you remember a member named Pollyanna. I understood that she had 9,999 posts before disappearing. Just noticed an old comment of hers in the recently-revived Keith Moon thread and it seems she how only has 9,992 posts.

Jon or Bernhard, how does that work? Deleted threads?

Stranger things have happened, Jules.

Hmm, Bernhard had it in his power to reinstate a thread when the number was 9999 and foil Polly's nefarious plot to frustrate the statisticians. He's a good sport haha

Yeah, I wish this lockout would stop. On the other hand, NHLers have shown up all over the place here in Europe, and I've been considering a couple of road trips to see some games. Berlin Eisbaren have a few now [Claude Giroux and Danny Briere], and I'm thinking of going to Davos and seeing Joe Thornton and Rick Nash.

It ain't the NHL, but it's a huge step for the Euro teams, and they get a jolt out of it. Even the Juniors team near me just picked up a kid from Quebec...their first. Pretty cool.

But yeah, I miss hockey....

That's really cool, mikey. A chance to see some players up close whom you might not otherwise get the chance to. I guess Datsyuk is creating quite the sensation playing for CSKA Moscow, the team Sergei Fedorov *manages* (can't believe Feds is the GM of a team... weird).

I'm very relieved to hear this. I was gone from here for awhile, then came back and she was nowhere to be seen. Haven't asked about her because I was afraid of what the answer might be.

Whew.

Yeah, I always thought of him more as the kind of guy that was always busy winking at the chicks. Maybe I'm wrong. That'd be great to see Datsyuk. KHL is pretty cool. I'd love to play gigs in Russia and go to a hockey game. That would be great!
Old Red Army legend Viktor Tikhonov is the manager of the junior team here. Always cool to pay 4euro to see him up there doing his thing. Great bratwurst and bier specials, too.

Now I really miss hockey.

Guys, I, er, Polly can't live up to the rock star billing. She's more a small bars, fundraisers and parties kinda gal.

Today's thought isn't random - I hate renovations. I feel like I'm camping - crap and building refuse everywhere. If I had any character I'd clean it up, ready for painting.

Yeah, what happened to Luke? Snapped up by a touring band?
