Sounds like you got run down after the week in court. Vitamin C, hot drinks, stay warm , rest and run through your doubles at moderate tempo.

Seriously, that seems very old world. My Mum's school nuns were sadistic, bitter (probably plain and rejected) women too. But Mum was born in the 1920s ... your school days seem to be very olde worlde lol
This was 1960 Pol,and the left handed/devil thing was pretty previlent. There are some 17 th century writings of the Catholic Church that say Beelzebub baptized his followers with his left hand. They also say that devil worshipers greet each othe with the left hand. Many faith associate the left hand with evil.

Thank goodness that I've left religion behind.:)

Actually Mr.Mayor, there are some 17th century writings by the Catholic Church that state that Beelzebub baptized his followers with his left hand,Those that worship the devil were said to greet each other with their left hand.I guess that's why some of these nuns were a little .....well nuts.

In the 60's and early 70's,teaching nuns and brothers,as well as lay teachers could be pretty heavy handed at times.

I've adjusted just fine.Besides my grandfather, rest his soul, some of the best people I know are lefties. It's all good.:)

So took all my cymbals - including hi hats - an additional cymbal stand, snare, pedal and sticks. Didnt take enough apparently.

The kit was an old Pearl Forum. The snare stand legs were splayed like a $50 hooker and did this rickety little drunken dance the whole night. The mounted toms couldnt be adjusted and were set permanently at a cock eyed angle by some crazy drummer way back. The stage was so small that back of my ride cymbal arm was up the keyboard player's backside all night.

The things we put up with sometimes......

But hey! good gig!

Given that Arabs, Turks and Persians have long wiped their bum with their left hand and water, and given that Judeo-Christian religion sprang from that area ... I'm just wondering if the roots of LH phobia could have come from there ... I can imagine the hand gaining a rep for disease and pestilence ...

From your description it seems "enough" would also include snare stand, bass drum & mounted toms. It could save you having to bring your hihat stand and floor tom, though :)

You, as usual, are exactly correct. I rarely catch colds but boyfriend was sick last week and with being rundown from lack of sleep it caught me with my defenses down. At lessons this week I was feeling lousy so my teacher prescribed exactly the same thing...lots of doubles exercises on the practice pad :). Must be the universal dosage for under the weather drummers...lol.

On the bright side, I spent an hour and a half on the pad and kit yesterday for the first time in two weeks. Probably overdid it a little but it sure felt good.

I laughed out loud when I read this. Because it could be true. So ridiculous, and yet such a "human" thing to do, connecting those dots and attributing evil to something like the left hand. I'm sure you're right.

Moderate tempo doubles are relaxing - they feel smoother on the hands than singles and you don't have to think.

Yeah, it's not easy to love a left hand with that job description!

What got me thinking about it is the old Middle Eastern edict about pork being unclean - it was parasites. Something unhealthy was going on with shellfish too.

I'm guessing the especially strict edict against gays is because the Jews were greatly outnumbered by people who didn't like them - populate or perish! It's pretty obvious why men were instructed in the Bible to avoid menstruating women - fear :)

But, she's very arty and good at drawing, could it be that she's left handed?

Well, as long as funding is forthcoming it looks like I'm going to be doing a Masters next year with a very real possibility of a PhD. Looks like I'm not full of rubbish after all.

Part of my funding proposal is justifying why others might be interested in what it is I want to study. That's the tricky part!

If anyone's interested it's pretentious musicology/composition nonsense.

So the Tigers are up 2-0 on the Athletics, now heading to Oakland for the remainder of the series. Damn Yankees won last night, too. That sucks.

Ah, Moneyball!

I'm a statistics nerd. I got into Sabermetrics when I was 12 years old, courtesy of a good friend who went on to become a math professor. So baseball stats and Moneyball are a passion of mine.

In this case, I am hoping those Athletics do NOT win a series :)

Thanks David!

I was ten minutes too late for the scan the other day so I had to sweat it for an evening, wondering what my prognosis would be.

I spent it trying to work out how to get my mess (aka affairs) in order and thinking existential thoughts (watching this video, even if I only understood a bit of it). Certainly better than fretting, though my sister's death earlier this year really brought home my mortality. It was a delicate balancing act getting myself into a headspace where I felt I could be accepting and calm in the face of the worst news, while avoiding fretting.

So I go for the test and took the scans to the doc. He thought it looked okay but called the specialist at the scan centre on speakerphone for confirmation ... then I heard the specialist say the magic words "Definitely no cancer" and I went "YESS!!" with a double fist pump. The doc was amused.

I always imagined that it would take a scare to get me to stop smoking (everything) and I hoped it was of the kind that would give me a second chance.

The emphysema is a bit scary but I'd much rather a problem that required caution (have to watch out for traffic fume and particulates in the air at home) and exercise to chemo and the horrible cancer treadmill that turns people's lives upsidedown.

Also have a severely infected rib injury from the coughing that hurts like hell (can't play, or even set up the kit at the moment) - just waiting for the megadose of antibiotics to do its job and for the rib injury to heal. Keen to clear the rest of the carpet out of the house because the mould in it was a big part of the problem.

It's sooo great being in my 50s (not). They say that the 40 is the old age of youth and the 50s in the youth of old age. Seems about right so far ...

Glad to hear about the negative test results, Grea.

I had a recent dermatologist visit that involved removal of a bump from my forehead. The doctor didn't necessarily think anything at all but he mentioned he'd do a biopsy. He handed me a medical info sheet and mentioned the possibility that it was "pre-cancerous," which is not any kind of life-threatening diagnosis but I must admit shook me a little. I had to wait a couple weeks but it turned out to be nothing at all. That's not a fun wait, is it.

I thought one night of existential wondering was enough - 2 weeks of it sounds harsh. Did you get your affairs in order.

Not rapt in having the "pre-cancerous" label attached either - it would makes me feel like my body was in the mood for playing cancer.

Having said that, between the hot sun and weakened ozone layer in Oz people get skin cancers cut out all the time without major drama but others aren't so lucky.

Bugger - missed this Grea. That's great news. I know what you mean about crafting a head space (read impossible). Maybe we can give up the smokes together? It's got to happen - double bugger, my little enjoyments slipping off the shelf one by one.

If my next home recording is a straight pop song with no psychedelic or crazy parts, please shoot me!
Glad to hear that Pol.The COPD diagnosis I can tell you isn't the best news in the world, but with bronciodialators, exercise and diet it is arrestable.

I still love eating cheese, but I just have to eat a lot less of it because it creates mucus.I also don't miss the coughing fits, especially in the morning.Food also tastes much better, and I have a few extra buck in my pocket for.......stuff.

When I frst quit,I had a large jar that I put money in every day, that I would ordnarily spend on smokes.I did it for a year and only occasionally took a few dollars out. Thanks to outragious NY City taxes on cigarettes,I had saved up around 3,500 bucks. In NY,smokes are 10 dollars a pack.

Anyway..great news on the tests, now you really have to do it.I know it's tough. One of the most difficult things you'll ever do is kicking the addiction to nicotine. But your body is trying to tell you something.COPD....cracked rib.Hell If you want,we can set up some kind of phone hotline. When ever you have the urge, call someone up.I'll volunteer.

Some things you just can't do alone, and nothing wrong with having a support group.Cheers
