Default Pearl Optimounts don't seem to fit my mid-90s MMX drums....

Hey guys.
A few months back I bought some of the older-style Pearl Optimounts for my mid-1990s MMX Masters Custom drums.
The drum sizes I bought them for are (diameter x depth) a 12x8 and a 13x9 tom.
I am certain I bought the correct Optis, because I checked and double-checked and scoured the 'Net before I did, to make sure.
But when I got them, I found that I could hardly get the top and bottom of the Optis over the brass insert that pokes out of the top of the lug - on either drum, both top and bottom.
I was also not able to extend the Optis any further, because they were extended to their full length.
So I've put them back in their boxes, but I must say I was surprised because I've seen pictures of Optis on kits way older than mine.
I'm just wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this?
Thanks.

scoopyx.

Did you try taking the set screw out to separate the pieces, then putting them over the inserts? Then put the set screw back in...
