Default DW 3000 Vs Tama Iron Cobra kick

Looking at GC right now, I could either do a DW 3000 or a Tama Iron cobra ($10 less).

I really liked the feel of the DW3000 when I tried it, even more so than the 5000. I also don't mind the Iron Cobra pedal.

Which is better in your opinion?>

Interesting that at GC, the IC is priced only slightly above the 3000. Are you looking at a used one, or perhaps the single-chain IC Jr?

The 3000 is a good, solid, intermediate/working drummer pedal roughly analogous to the old 7000 series. I've played both and own a 3002 double pedal. They're fairly solid pedals, but in the case of the double pedal, I have found that the linkage can come loose if you haven't tightened the bolts down like a gorilla. I also have had the bolt that holds the chains onto the main pedalboard break - easily replaced for $1.25 at the hardware store, but if it had happened at a gig rather than at home, I woulda been screwed (no pun intended).

I have never played an IC but they are for all intents and purposes Tama's version of the DW 5000, with the implication of superior build quality and durability that that implies. If it's a difference of 10 bucks, I would go with the IC.

Nothing wrong with going with a pedal for feel over price; I would just make sure that the price difference does not carry with it a less durable product. Had I the option to do my purchase over, I might have gone for a different pedal for slightly more money. I'm not unhappy with my purchase, but my caveats show that the 3000 series are not quite professional quality.

Iron Cobra. More adjustable features.

Cool, thanks! What about Pearl P-900's are they good? Or any Pearl pedals?

My first double pedal was a Pearl, and it did the job but unspectacularly. Lately I have observed some rather shoddy engineering in Pearl hardware that leads me to not recommend it. In any case, the P-900 is an intermediate pedal and again I would sooner recommend the IC.

Most people would say go iron cobra, but I never cared much for them. If you like them, get one, but don't just buy something because its popular, get what you like.

It's really not a matter of ICs being "more popular" or whatever ... The IC is a better quality pedal with more features, pure and simple. Not to take anything away from the DW3000 - but the IC is an upper-echelon pedal.

I have the IC and have played various DW pedals over the years, and I much prefer the Iron Cobra. However, the IC is a few steps above the DW3000 in both engineering and adjustability terms, which is why the IC is marketed as competing against the DW9000. The DW3000 is more along the lines of the Iron Cobra Jr, which also isn't a bad pedal.

Remember that pedals are like shoes - you have to try it on and see which one your foot likes better.

I wouldn't argue that the iron cobra is the more quality pedal, I just never felt comfortable with it so I went with a 5000. I don't want the op to think he is making a bad decision if he doesn't get the one considered the nicest if it isn't right for him.

Actually I think the Iron Cobra competes with the 5000's. The Speed Cobra is up against the 9000's. The iron cobra jr. is a single chain, similar to the dw 2000's. I would say the 3000's are somewhere in between the tama jr. cobra and Iron Cobra. Closer to the Iron Cobra in comparison.. I own the 7000's/5000s/9000s all double pedals and I think the 7000s are great for the money especially if you put the DW hardcore beaters on them.
