I hate my job.
A bachelor's degree and years of customer service/IT experience lead me to a low-paying low-level retail manager position. The pay is crap and the constant weekend shifts make it very difficult to schedule practices and gigs. I know, I'm looking for something better but I does feel better to rant about the state of things among friends. ...also I got a new dog. He's finally adjusted and has mad a wonderful addition to my family.

You know the old joke:
"what do you call a musician without a girlfriend?" "homeless!" I never really got the joke when I was younger because I always found a way to support myself. But when I wonder how so and so got such and such a gig, it's odd to find out sometimes it's because so-and-so lived that joke, and thus why they had the free time to practice while I was at work. (not that I'm complaining, just observing). |

It's so hot. In the UK we don't have air conditioning so I'm surrounded by fans. I've had a bit to drink but not enough to eat and I feel absolutely terrible.

A rather productive morning of lawn mowing, rabbit hutch cleaning and car cleaning seems to have left me no energy to clean my house. The ex wife is dropping my daughter around tomorrow morning, so I should go to bed so I can get up in time to clean the kitchen and vaccuum around the place, but the internet keeps distracting me when I decide to go to bed.

Best skit ever!!
Watched a Python doco recently. I didn't realise that so much of the financing for Holy Grail and Life of Brian came from rock stars. Floyd and Zeppelin put up a lot of the cash for Grail and George Harrison did likewise for Brian. Thank god some of my musical idols have a similar sense of humour to me.....imagine they didn't, two of my all time favs. may never have got off the ground.

Going through the mail today, I see two bills from Emory Hospital, bills for my co-pay for some tests I've had recently.
It all comes to a pretty damn big chunk of dollars, although it's nothing we can't pay. But I look at how much those tests actually cost and man! It's no mystery why people without health insurance go bankrupt over health care costs like that.

Wondering what ever happened to Derrick Pope. He filmed drum lessons on Youtube, and just randomly dissapeared. The dude was a pretty good instructor at a beginner level and was a really nice guy. I know he had health problems, so I hope maybe he just got tired of doing the internet thing and something didn't happen to him.
If any of you know him, and have talked to him recently, I'd appreciate a message.

Another update on my D.I.Y. drum seat(s)...
After a few day playing, I felt some discomfort with my first attempt of building my own seat, and since I had enough material to do another attempt, I build a second one, lol... ...taking more attention to details, learning from the first one flaws, after a whole week of brain washing testing various configuration, I went for the big test on the kit yesterday, two sessions of 3 hours each with some serious overplaying, haha... only took a 30mn break in between, I'm happy to say it felt very good indeed, more updates to follow, I might start a thread upon it if anyone's interested :) |

How do we find out? Is it widely assumed that if held under water the real sticks will not drown, and anyone who does is exonerated and remembered honourably? Subsequently the real one is burned at the stake/banned?

Hehehe... Hi Abe
It's a tongue in cheek comment... if Spes gonna travel through Switzerland by train, he's going to go through a lot of tunnels, although some are quite long, most of them are short enough and only takes minutes to go through, there's not a lot of flat ground in the country, haha... there's the Alps, the pre-Alps and the Jura, these mountains are covering almost two third of the surface of the country, tunnels are a must to go from A to B, but you'll still enjoy the scenery, I would suggest to visit Switzerland by car, this way you drive up and down these mountains through a pass, at the top, the view of the scenery is a breathtaking experience on a clear day. :) ![]() Incidentally, I was a railway engineer in Switzreland, and I worked in many tunnels for maintenance and renovation. |

Gee, they must have good cars over there to handle the slopes! Are there hair-raising unprotected single lane roads up the mountains? (Not that it sounds like the organised Swiss to leave loose ends like that).

Incidentally, my hometown was at 1000m/3280ft altitude, winter time was fun as a kid, not so much as an adult, shovelling that white stuff was tiresome... in sub-zero C° temperature. |

Hmm, if I go there I might take the train and have a good book for the tunnels.
I've never seen snow and since I'm not keen old cold weather I've not tried hard to see it. One late springtime I was at the snowfields (long after the season had ended) and I saw some white stuff on the mountaintops. When we got up there all we found were big slabs of ice. That's as close as I've gotten.

Traffic in this city is RIDICULOUS, it's bloody maddening and I've been in it all day. I feel like a fighter pilot who's just made it back from a nasty dogfight.

Looks pretty wild, 8Mile. Looks like a challenging lifestyle! It's late winter here and things are finally warming up - those "freezing" nights of down to 6 degrees C (about 43F) and hovering around or under 12C most of the time. Yesterday it got up to 25C (77F) - perfect!
Must seem laughable to some of you but I have a German friend who reckons she gets colder in Sydney than back in Europe because homes there are built to withstand extreme temps while Oz houses are much less protected and open.

I had just finished practicing today and my girlfriend told me to clean the bathroom because my mother is coming over for supper.
We both work in the same profession, contribute equally financially and all that, but still that should really be besides the point. I remember my extended (ukrainian) family dinners as a kid, the women never left the kitchen, while the men before and after supper sat on their asses in the living room, drinking, smoking, watching sports, and playing cards. Sigh. Why can't things be the way they used to be? And before anyone brands me a rabid chauvinist, I did in fact clean the bathroom. |
