I'm thinking of getting this Paiste 101 set for a very cheap price: http://www.audiostore-ks.com/?p=1492 Is it worth it? I mean, not that it's lot of money, but if they sound bad I shouldn't really get them. As I've said, I can't tell a difference between two different cymbals of the same size, so I need some pro advice here. |

Trumpets are made from brass mate. Cymbals are made from bronze.
101's are the cheapest of cheap. Akin to the tin lids that come with supermarket kits.

The Paiste 101's are really cheap and bad sounding. Buy some used Sabian XS20, Paiste 404/505, Paiste 2002 or Zildjian A instead. You'll get better sound for your money.

Well, thanks. I wasn't aware of the bad quality of brass and to be honest, I never knew what normal cymbals are made of until now.
Will stay away from those then. My current crash and hi-hat are Paiste 404, which means that I have better cymbals than those 101s. Thanks again. EDIT: How about these rides: http://www.audiostore-ks.com/?p=1490 http://www.audiostore-ks.com/?p=1488 And this crash: http://www.audiostore-ks.com/?p=1484 P.S: I don't know why, but I prefer Paiste over Zildjian. |

Take a look at the Alpha or PST8 series, and stay away from Paiste's that are cheaper than them.

Here's a great ride: http://www.thomann.de/de/sabian_xs20_20_medium_ride.htm
A decent hihat: http://www.thomann.de/de/paiste_pst5...dium_hihat.htm And an ok crash: http://www.thomann.de/de/paiste_pst5...dium_crash.htm It will be hard to find new, decent cymbal cheaper than that. I'd still recommend that you buy used, for instance Paiste 2002 or Zildjian A.

Thanks a lot for your reply mate. Unfortunately my budget is kinda low and this is why I'm looking for cheaper cymbals (and other stuff), but I obviously need to avoid crappy quality even though it's cheap, so thanks for telling me.
It's gonna take another few months until I collect enough money to buy that ride and crash. I think my Hi-hat is good enough, since you listed Paiste 404 in the good cymbals list in your previous post and I have Paiste 404 14" Medium Hi-hat. Zildjian A prices are too high, can't even afford a 10" splash based on prices on amazon.de lol. Can you give me a few more ride cymbal articles, I'm trying to keep everything Paiste and the one you suggested is Sabian. Last edited by ageadm; 08-19-2012 at 01:44 PM. |

If you want an AMAZING ride cymbal, http://www.thomann.de/de/paiste_2002_20_ride.htm is the best ride in the world in my opinion. Maybe you could buy a used one? EDIT: You could also have a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LIV1OwEPRo It is hard to judge the cymbals since the level of EQ is high, but you get a good idea of what Paiste has to offer. Cheers!

I hate most cheap rides with a passion. stagg rides are good though, I play a very nice one at the practice studio I visit. I think it's a 20" medium brilliant b20.
A few rides I like: paiste giant beat/big al Zildjian k constantinople Sabian Artisan Meinl sand ride Maybe jump on YouTube and listen to some samples.

Zildjian ZBT, ZXT, ZHT, Planet Z etc I too hate with burning passion. But isn't the K Constantinople rides a little out of reach for a guy who needs a cheap ride? You could buy a car for that price lol ^^

I said I liked them, I didn't say he could afford them.
;) He can keep playing the cheap ones while he saves. It will give him time to decide what he likes too, and then he'll keep it forever.

The Paiste 404's are just a really good sounding cymbal line.Paiste actually made them too good. They are discontinued,so used or new old stock is the only way to buy them.
If money is a problem, then I would go with used cymbals.More bang for the buck. Steve B |

Thanks everyone :)
Sorry for changing the direction of this topic a bit, but can you guys also tell me about a decent china cymbal? I want it to be 16"+ and the prices kinda fair, as you already noticed my budget is not even set yet lol. This is what I've checked so far: http://www.amazon.de/Meinl-HCS16CH-C...5457339&sr=1-6 Last edited by ageadm; 08-20-2012 at 10:41 PM. |

That's because it isn't. But it sounds trashy like one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fethPH6d2WI I have owned 2 chinas, I don't like the way they're shaped, I'd much rather hit a crash cymbal so this is what I'd go with personally.
