this is what he recommended to me: snare: evans HD Dry toms: evans hydraulics kick: aquarian super kick 2 is this a good recommendation? would you recommend anything else? here's an example of what I'm looking for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCuXp-FYwjA i realize a lot of it has to do with mic EQ, just to give you an idea |

You don't need Evans Hydraulics heads for that sound. Just go with any clear two-ply head (Emperor, G2, etc.) and just tune your drums real low.

+1. An emperor or g2 will be fine, just get some moongel. To me warmth is resonance.. I fitted a hydraulic head to my snare, I admit, being black in colour was part of the appeal. It's really cold sounding and I don't like it. It sounds a bit like a marching snare when played softly (lifeless) and sounds really processed when hit hard, like an electric sample. A very metal kinda sound. Don't do it!

Why not use all Aquarian, super kick 2 on bass, focus x on snare and response 2 on toms.

classic black dots remo are good two. and with hydro heads, tuned tight with no bottom head sounds good for toms also sticky hands toys are moongel at a fraction of the price cut them to size for the amount of muffling needed.
